They say that a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing  so before doing anything I may regret, I thought I'd ask.

My potentially dangerous "little knowledge" comes from the printed manuals:
  • Champion 600 <> 6" speaker <> 4-ohm minimum
  • Vibro Champ XD <> 8" speaker <> 4-ohm
  • HRD <> 12" speaker <> 4-ohm or 8-ohm

If my understanding is correct, then it's possible to hook up the Champion 600 with the the 8" speaker of the VCXD as well as the 12" speaker of the HRD. Is it as easy at is sounds or is there much more to the story? If there's a way to do this I would really like to hear the little Champion 600 with a bigger speaker.

Thanks and Cheers!

Yes, you can use either the 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker with the C600. Just unplug the speaker from the C600, unplug the speaker from the other amp, and plug that speaker into the C600 speaker jack. The C600 sounds great using an ext cab, 12" - 8 ohm.

I run my 5F1 modded C600 through an open back cab with an 8 ohm Celestion G12P-80. Sounds fantastic. :D

There is enough excess speaker cable in my VCXD such that I can place the Champ onto of it then plug & play. However the same is not true of the speaker cable in the HRD which is just long enough to reach its intended destination.

I suppose I could cut the HRD speaker cable and solder in more speaker wire but I would prefer to leave the HRD speaker cable untouched. Would a cable with 1/4" female on one end and 1/4" male TS connector on the other be the way to go?

Thanks & Cheers!

Since the foot switch cable for the HRDlx appears to be zip cord, more like speaker cable, I cut the foot switch cable in two and crimped connectors on, so now I have two speaker cables with phone plugs already on the ends. On the HRDlx, an instrument cable works fine for the foot switch. I did this to test the HRDlx with other amps speakers, just as you want to do with the C600.

I was about to ask what gauge speaker wire to use but your suggestion of using the foot switch cable makes things even easier. Thanks Shimmilou :!:

Cheers!

+1!

I frequently play this 12-watt Princeton through a pair of twelves......

A speaker system maximized for efficiency is a great way to put "long pants" on a small amp so it can compete in the big leagues.

Sweet! Love that head. :D

It is amazing how much sound that you can get from low-wattage amps. My 100 watt amps, and my friends' 100 watt amps get very little use these days. When I jam with friends (non-professionally), we mainly use a BJr and a Tiny Terror (on 7 watt setting), or some of our other 15 watt or less amps, and even then we rarely turn the volume over 5. Quality over quantity. 8)

Holy sonic revelation, Batman!
Shimmilou, Bluesky, and Arjay were right :!:

First I tried the C600 with the 8" VCHD speaker and noticed a significant and dramatic improvement. In fact I think I like my C600 through the VCXD 8" speaker more than I like my VCXD through the same speaker.

When I hooked the little guy up the the HRD speaker, it blew me away and for a second I was tempted to get a cab and use the C600 as a head. Then it occured to me that the speaker is just one part of the package. The other part is all the mods in Bluesky's Modded Champion 600 thread which is at present - and in the foreseeable future - beyond my ability.

However, if there were some "magical" Kung-Fu to eliminate the hiss, the hum, and add reverb, then I would certainly go for the cab.

Cheers!
