A different point of view...

I have a standard Super-Sonic 22. I think it's rather good as-is. I can't think of anything particular to change on it to make it more "ultimate." If Fender have done a good job, why tinker? Sure we could all change things to suit personal preference, but that's different to "ultimate."

I changed the speaker on mine to a Cannabis Rex, which I love, altho the stock speaker was also very good.

The ONE change I would make is the reverb: it's not at all like the DRRI/PRRI reverb; it's not the big splashy Fender reverb. It really can't "surf"... it's works fine, especially if a little reverb is all you want, but there's something special about Fender combo reverb and the SS22 doesn't have it.

Also, any amp that requires re-biasing when changing power tubes should have bias test points and a bias pot on the OUTSIDE of the chassis, so you don't have to open it up when you re-tube (or when you want to tryout various tubes)

Fender already did that, just flip the ARENA setting to CLUB.

Yeah, they did, and then they were so proud of themselves they discontinued it. I still haven't figured out why they won't be making the 100 watt SS anymore... or why they won't put some of its features (mid notch, auto bias, speaker damping) into the rest of the SS line. Probably, somebody in a board room looked at a spreadsheet and decided it wasn't fiscally sensible anymore.

All I really know about the SS 100 situation is that I'm very happy I got mine when I did, out of the dozen or more amps I own this is the only one getting any playing time at all since I got it.

I've never had the chance to try an SS 100, but I was thinking the same. Until Fender themselves told me they don't think the SS100 in 'club' mode is as good as the SS22... Can anyone who's tried both, comment?
