Does anyone know if there is any difference in the circuit or construction of the Blues Deluxe vs. the Blues Deluxe Reissue? I'm wondering about the enclosure, speaker, circuit, the whole dad gum thing, basically. I have a G-dec amp which has really helped me get into playing, but I'm thinking the Blues Deluxe (reissue) will be my next big move, and I'm trying to decide whether or not to shell out the cash for a new one, by a used one or look for an original from the 90's. Are the reissues more/less reliable. I think anyone reading this will get my drift.

And thanks to any who can help.

Regards,
SD

The Blues Deluxe Reissue came out in the early '90s and according to what I've read was meant to be an improvement functionally over the original (50s vintage) which did not have channel switching. I've never seen an original and would have no interest in buying a 50+/- year old amp as a primary 'user'.

I can tell you that the Blues Deluxe Reissue is a great amp- I own one and love it! Do keep in mind that it is loud, even at low settings, so know what you are getting into. Best go to a Guitar Center and 'test drive' one. If you can use the volume and like overdriven blusey tones, you'll like this amp.

Sometimes you can find a 'refurbished' one at Musician's Friend for $100 less. It will have full warranty and was usually someone's demo.

I believe the BDRI to be reliable, except that Fender has been putting out a lot of tube amps with bad preamp tubes. It will be under warranty and at $15 each, a replacement preamp tube wouldn't break you if you purchased it yourself. even though it is annoying to get a new amp with a problem.

If you have an extra $100, buy a TS-9 tubescreamer for additional tone variation. With this setup you'll get great tone, but as stated before, try one before buying.

I replaced the stock speaker in my BD with a Jensen C12K and man, it sounds better. The Jensen is stock in the DR.

I have the BDRI and it is a great amp and needs no modifications.

Thanks to all who responded. I didn't really get an answer to my central questions, but that's fine.

I believe that the reason that you don't think your question was answered lies in the fact that 'original' Blues Deluxe amps were not made in the 90's. Those made in the 90's (as well as currently) are 'reissues'.

'Originals' go way back to somewhere in the 50's or 60's and of course they were different: no channel switching and no pcb's.

I believe that I read where the BDRI was out of production for a time, then reintroduced, which may be the reason for your confusion.

Someone else out there please correct me if I'm wrong.

I know there was a Tweed Deluxe made in the fifties and have read that the Blues Deluxe, made during the nineties, was based somewhat on a 59 Bassman circuit, but the Blues Deluxe of the nineties morphed into the Hot Rod Deluxe which lead to the Blues Deluxe being discontinued. I think this occured at or around 1996. Recently, as in 2004/2005, the original nineties Blues Deluxe was reissued. So I'm wondering if Fender altered the circuit or general design of the reissue.

Thanks,
SD

Thanks for setting me straight.

I had thought that the Blues Deluxe Reissue was created in the early 90's after a much earlier (50s/60s) 'vintage' amp; that it then had been discontinued for several years, then manufactured again (this time in Mexico).

Thanks again.

I recently bought one of the new Enclosures for my Blues Deluxe. HIGHLY recommend it for a little more beef in your tone.

The enclosures have a different speaker... a celestion. Does it breakup sooner than the eminence speaker?

thanks,

The "reissue" BD has the bias trim pot like the HRD. [It shares the same inherited output stage].
Although the range of adjustment is quite limited, this is quite handy when playing with different tubes .

Hello Mr. Mardell:

I've seen a few of your youtube videos, and you do have quite good sound. I did finally purchase a Blues Deluxe and am now working on decreasing the power/volume a bit. Haven't quite decided which route to go, though I am strongly leaning towards replacing some of the tubes. Wither with THD Yellow Jacket converters or with JJ 6V6S power tubes. I love the tone of the amp, but it is just a bit loud.

Oh no those videos are rubbish! Ahhhh! Yeah, granted, the amp scares the life out of me sometimes. I even wear earplugs occasionally!
