Greetings.

I purchased a cheap green board BJ as a winter project amp. I have read many threads about mods, increasing the power, extension cabinet, boxy sound, and ect. Has any one tried a 10" speaker in one? Some say the small cheap cabinet is part of the resaon for the boxy sound and you can buy a bigger or extension cabinet to solve the problem, why not try a smaller speaker? I like 10" speakers for guitar.

Just curious.

If you like 10's for guitar, why not try one? Just need to pull out the old baffle and speaker and build a new one with a 10. The grill cloth can either be re-used or you can purchase some new, since it is still being made. I am re-baffling a 69 Bantam Bass Amp and turning it into a 2x12 30 watt amp vs. that crazy Yamaha trapezoidal POS that it came with. It is a great amp platform modeled on the Bassman amp...I also did another Bantam Last year and used a 65 Jensen Concert 15 inch speaker as a replacement for the Yamaha and am so digging it...hence the 2x12 Bantam project this winter.

Go for it.

I bought a 10" fender special design out of a super champ on ebay today, I was just wondering if anyone had tried it before. I also ordered a billm basic mod kit. The amp really sounds pretty good as is but it was cheap enough that it's a good project to "play scientist" with. Thanks for the reply

Don't think I have heard of anyone doing that, but just make sure your speaker matches the ohms and the power the amp puts out. Have fun and if you have questions post em here, someone will most certainly be able to answer.

I think you'll find that the only thing "special" about that 10-inch speaker is its Shanghai origins (hold the duck sauce, please!).

Why not give your mod a fighting chance -- use a real speaker. Among contemporary drivers, Eminence's Ragin' Cajun and Copperhead models are very capable speakers. A Blackframe Kendrick would also be worthy of consideration.

Agreed! Lots of good 12" candidates. Do a search here on Blues jr. speaker changes, or follow Billm's advice about speaker changes on his website: http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=295

I read what Billm said about speakers on his web site, and he's probably right, that is the last mod you should do. The amp was cheap, the speaker I bought is cheap, I'm cheap, & it's to cold to test drive my old british bikes, what else am I gonna do this winter. I did buy a Billm basic mod kit also. Oh yeah.... I like duck sauce too.

Triumph Bonneville and a Daytona. I also have a couple of MG's. I'm a glutton for high maintenance machines. Oh yeah an old Chevy too, but it's just perfect, and never needs anything but to be driven, very low maintenance.

I dropped a 12 inch Cannabis Rex into my 2009 Blues Jr NOS. What a great speaker! It handles everything I can throw at it with no problems.

Mechanically quite decent, but I think Lucas was really a plumber!

Do you mean Lucas the "Prince of darkness".

We'd better get back on topic. I'd like to hear more about that Cannabis Rex speaker. Do they come in a 10"?
