Hello. I just bought a Fender Vibro Champ XD at Sam Ash yesterday. I tried it out today when I opened it, but it's not playing any sounds what so ever. It just says producing some kind of humming sound, and after a while, something starts to smell like it's burning. I know it's not the guitar nor the cable, cause the work fine on other amps.
What gives? Is there anything I can do, or something that I'm doing wrong?

I'll just exchange it for another one when Sam Ash opens on Wednesday if it's defective.
This really sucks. All help and info greatly appreciated.

First make sure that all of the tubes are fully seated by gently but firmly pushing them towards their sockets. If tubes are seated properly, heed the advice given by stratele52.

Also try pushing your guitar jack all the way into the amp jack. On my VC XD I have to make sue the plug is fully inserted sometimes because although it looks like its in, it isn't, and this produces similiar symptoms you described.
Good thing is its under warranty, bad thing is hopefully sam ash has more available as its been discontinued.

Well I don't know what the problem was, but now I was able to exchange the for a new one, which I was able to pick and try out of two standing next to each other. Needless to say it works like a charm! What are the chances of getting a defective new amp?

Happens more often than it should these days.
