Glad it worked out. An easier trick might be the WOODEN chopstick test. With amp on bench, turn in on, have speaker(s) connected, low volume, no input.

Now, with ONE hand tap the chopstick onto each component and see if you can find the noisy resistor or cap. Be sure NOT to place the other hand onto the chassis.

This trick often works for noisy tubes, sockets, jacks, etc too.

Good luck with finding the culprit!

if you read my first post i think you see i used a chopstick to try and find the culprit.
