I want to share my experience in trying to find a non-defective drri this past year. I started out with one standard black face reissue in 2/12. I returned it a few weeks later because the amp would flip out intermittently with a horrible loud complete distortion sound & , which you had to turn it off to reset. I then returned 4-5 brand new drri-s over thw course of 6-8 weeks by because of crappy buzzing issues..which are well noted throughout this forum om. I finally settled on a custom color version which had a different jensen speaker in it. It sounded great for a short while but began buzzing & distorting breaking up unnaturally way to early. By this to time i was nearly convinced that it was me or just the way the amp is..During in this time period i was told by the gc salespeople that i have bad electricity, its something the room buzzing, its only me having problems & a lot of other bs. However drri problems are well noted on this forum. I did not want to give up on this so i researched things. I changed the tubes, speaker, learned how to bias & learned a hell of alot of other info about amps. I tht it licked at one point but the problem surfaced again. I narrowed it down to bad tube sockets. I gave up & had it serviced. The Problem....bad 6v6 power tube sockets. I now enjoy a perfect drri with jjs & c.rex speaker. No b zzing or defective crappy breakup.. just the natural beautiful breakup its known for.
By the way fender did sh%t for me. I contacted them multiple times & they promised followup but did Zero!
Buyer beware!!

Yes guys, i have an awesome sounding amp. But no one should go through these hoops to get a properly functioning brand new amp. & fender did zero & i quickly learned that many of the gc salespeople are complete morons, who have no technical clue. I did meet a f
ew honest sales guys though that were very helpful & went out of their way.

But the positive part of this ordeal was the learning experience & generous people that gave tips such as Bill & others on this forum.

Sorry about the typos on my original post...as i was using my smart/dumb phone.

Happy Holidays !

This is not exactly earth-shattering news.

Prolly ex-NASA scientists laid off after the shuttle was retired.

Or former neurosurgery professors who lost their tenure at Johns Hopkins.

How much did it cost you to get your amp repaired?

It didn't cost anything... as the amp was brand new & has a 5 year warrantee (excluding tubes). But it took 8-9 weeks to get the work completed by my local authorized repair center. Anyway, I have a blues Jr as a back up so I was OK. By the way, I have no complaints about the guys service here in the NJ/NY area. He is an old timer who was receptive to my issues & didnt break balls about tube & speaker changes (as they had zero to do wit the problem). It was worth the wait & his work proved to be so far excellent.

To say that Fender did sh%t for you is just not right, they gave you a 5 year warranty, and that's pretty good, because if not for that, just think what the repair would have cost you.

I dont understand that statement. They are pumping out brand new defective units. Why should someone pay for a repair if it is brand new purchase? I like fender products as i have quite a few guitars & amps. Thats why i took the energy to find a solution. I was not of a fan of their failure to follow up after i called the consumer relations number.

I agree that the QC of the amps are an issue, but to say they did sh%t for you is a little unfair, considering the 5 year warranty. Next time they fail to follow up, just call them back, and remind them, some times people get real busy, and may need a reminder.

I did call them up more than once. I was surprised there was no follow up, which they promised. But I really didnt have the time during the day to pursue them. But its interesting after all this time considering the size of the entity.
Do you work for them?
