I dunno. It's worth the extra money to me just to upgrade the whole speaker and not have to deal with gadgets. Bass gets better too with the aftermarket speaker.

I presume that some speakers are more "spikey" than others.

The Princeton is a good amp but the Deluxe Reverb 22 watts is the least amount of power I want. I need to use this for gigs, I love my Super but it's a bit too heavy to move around all the time. I also am not a big fan of a single 10" speaker. I don't mind 4 of em in the super though!
