Hey guys (first post),

Im still saving for a gibson es-335 (srry:p), but i'm thinking of already getting a tube amp, because i really have a ****ty amp right now.
I have a fender strat and a gibson es-135 and i'm into classic rock (beatles, kinks, stones etc.) but also like blues very much.

I'm looking for a bluesy tone, like clapton in his cream period and on that dvd that was never released on songs that he plays his es-335 on.
I really like this tone of clapton:

I've looked around and saw that much people recommend fender amps and also vox was recommended.

I've already posted this, but wanted to make a poll out of it

seems to me it's not in the amp ... just play the blues and the tone will come.

Eric used the following set-up for the Soldano SLO-100 during his mid-90s blues period that you see on this video:
Normal / Preamp: 8
Overdrive / Preamp: 3
Bass: 11
Middle: 11
Treble: 3
Normal Volume / Master: 10
Overdrive Volume / Master: 7
Presence: 4
Amp switches: Normal and Crunch
A foot pedal was used to switch between the normal and overdrive channels

The closest you will get from the Soldano SLO-100 from the Fender tube-amp line up is the Super-Sonic, available in 1x12 combo or as a head with matching 2x12 or 4x12 cabinets. I am a Clapton freak and I can get in the ballpark of most of his tones throughout his career, maybe layla's is the exception as he was using small fender champs. the super-sonic ahs two gain controls and it very versatile...you should go out and try one. Bring your ES-335 and try it with Gain 1 on 3, Gain 2 on 5, treble on 4, bass on 6 ans mid on 4...you will be amazed at how a fender can sound close to an early marshall amp which clapton used during most of his cream era (he was also using Fender's piggy back).

I don't want to take the credit for everything I noted above :) The source is Clapton's amp and settings I provided above is this one:

You can play Clapton's personal rig and you will probably not get the same tone. It's a lot more complex than just amp and guitar settings.

yes i agree with you that a tone has much to do with the playing style and technique of a player. But i just want a amp that gets me in the right direction.
