I believe the schematic is available from Fender customer service.

If the 12AX7 is unbranded... it's unbranded!

I'm quoting Vic Mazz here - but he is my tube guru:

"According to the schematic the HDR uses 3 x 12ax7 pre-amp tubes
Different players like different sounds so I can't say whats best for you.

The EH 12AX7, JJ ECC83-s or reissue Tung sol 12ax7 are all suitable for the HDR
You don't have to have all the same brand you can also mix them up.

TAD Re-label the JJ ECC83-s as their "TAD 7025/E83CC Highgrade tube" (12ax7)

The EH 12AX7 (Russian ) more mid range kick an sound good in the blackface/silverface era amps

The Tung sol 12ax7 are a little brighter tho also well balanced tube."

let's click on and open this sche.................

My SCXD had a "Fender" 12AX7 that fried within 3 months. Put in a JJ ECC83S/12AX7 and it sounds excellent.

The power tubes were Fender-labelled white paint Groove Tube GT-6V6. I love them.............but just for kicks (since they don't cost very much) I put in some very well reviewed JJ 6V6S bottles. And the sound changed quite a bit (though lots of posts in here suggest that it would not, on tube swaps in most tube amps). And now I love it even more. The speaker, which amazes me with its fidelity and depth with such a wimpy magnet, is still stock. But with the new JJ power, I'm thinking the Rajin' Cajun may be coming its way.

:?: I'm about to order the SCXD is there a problem with these tubes blowing on a monthly basis, my Princeton 65 is so dependable and I have just been having a bad desire to own one of these XD models.

I've had my SCXD for about a year now and havn't had tube issues. I play it everyday too.

Thanks for that reply , I have not had to deal with a tube amp of my own and dependability is something I like.

I've had my Super Champ since the end of February, it is used almost daily - sometimes several times a day - I've no issues with the original tubes.

Tubes are somewhat delicate, and since these are made in China, and shipped across the Pacific, and then trucked to a Fender distribution point, and then possiblely shipped again (like mine - I got it from zzounds, NJ to VT), it's a wonder that more problems aren't reported.

When I got mine, I made sure each tube was well seated, the 12AX7 was a little loose. So maybe reports of early death are due to shipping and vibration, and folks not checking their amps out when they get them.

Just my 2 cents,

I replaced mine with NOS RCA's. Fatter and richer than the stock EH tubes.

I just replaced mine with a tung sol. Wow, what a difference. I use a 1x12 cabinet with a Celestion 12M70. But this tube made a world of difference. Its not only louder but it really adds to my gain and tone. I get a nice chunk sound when I feel like playing some metal. Plus the clean sound is a lot more crisp. Its well worth it to check out some new tubes.
