Hi folks, first post, thanks in advance for any input.

A few months back I picked up a second hand Supersonic 112 combo, the 60 watt. I have no idea how old it is and I suspect it still has the original tubes in it.

Recently the reverb has been getting more and more noisy and just now there's no reverb at all, although the noise is still there.

I took the shields off and powered it up and the tubes in V6 and V9 don't light up. They are both AT7's while all of the others are AX7's. The amp has tube powered reverb and I'm assuming it's these two.

Seems unusual that both reverb tubes would go independently of each other, more likely a problem elsewhere has been overloading them.

Any clues?

Hi thefatman,

It's normal to not see the glow for many 12AT7 tubes. The reverb tubes are actually V9 and V10, check one or both of those tubes, V9 first. V6 is the phase inverter (PI), and if it was bad you would have no sound from the amp. The best way to check is to substitute a known good 12AT7 tube in V9, and/or a known good 12AX7 tube in V10.

Many thanks shimmilou

I assume I shouldn't mix the two, put an AT7 in 10 or vice versa. I know I can get an old AX7 from a mate, not sure about an AT7 though.

Generally this is true. It is a good idea to have a couple of spares anyway, as well as spare output tubes. Typically, tubes are the first suspects, not always, but usually.
