My brother is looking into buying a new bassamp. He dosen't want to spend to much money but want a amp that can be loud enough to be heard over the drums. Any good tips? I've been looking at the fender rumble 100W. It looks quite good any opinions or other alternatives?

:D A rumble is what it is. It's a good starter amp. A beeter choice if he can afford it would be a Bassman 100. Better quality with more features. And remember that you can alwways either mic or go DI to a board to get heard over drums.

My brother is no beginner but is not a pro either. He doesn't care about features so much just sound. I know you could plug the amp into the PA but that makes the song much weaker when you don't have a powerful PA.

:D Bassmans have a di line out to a pa or bord so the volume of the amp is'nt effected. The pa just multiplys your sound source. For shows I use a bassman 250/115 tha I put thru a pa head putting out 400 watts per side into 2 cabs with 15's and horns. Total usable wattage - about 900w real world sound power.

Out of curiosity, what bass do you use? Thanks.

:D On stage I have a export aerodyne j-bass and a export aerodyne p-bass along with an american standard deluxe frettless j-bass. I have a MIA j & p bass for back-ups at home. All my basses are set-up so that I don't have to change any amp settings regardless of the bass I'm using.
