I'm interested in buying the Hot Rod Deville but wanted to know if I can play this amp in the house at a room level? I would also use this amp for small clubs when I get good at playing, maybe in another 2 years. I like playing Pink Floyd, Robin Trower and some metal stuff. Can this be the amp for me?

The Hot Rod Deville is a 60 watt amp. While it can be played in a home at low levels, it would not be my first choice. If you are looking for a home practice amp, you should look in the 5 to 15 watt range. You have at least two years by your own admission before you will need a bigger amp.

I know what you are saying and I do agree about using a smaller amp. What I should've mentioned in my first post I am currently have a Peavey Vypyr. It's an ok amp but I wanted a tube amp. I figured I would buy the Fender Deville and slowly start buying the pedals I need to get the sounds I want. Most of the pedals I'm looking at are all pretty expensive and will take a while before I put everything together. so most of my home practice will be using the peavey. I would use the Deville at home with some surf songs until I start getting the pedals I need. Just need to know if I can play the amp in the house at a lower level for now.

I owned a Deville and it's a beast. Very loud and difficult to dial in at low volumes. Frankly for what you describe (home practice and small club gigs) the Deville is entirely overkill. If you're opposed to a 15 watt amp, then I suggest you go to the middle ground and get the Hot Rod Deluxe. It's 40 watts and a 1x12 speaker. Lighter and easier to move than the Deville, but still really loud when you need it. Plus it has almost the exact same control and feature configuration as the Deville.

Is the Deville the amp for you? I guess if you enjoy using a sledgehammer as a fly swatter...

Internet wisdom is if you want quiet levels with a tube amp you have to go low wattage, but there are a number of contrarians out there who insist that their 50 and 100 watt amps sound fine at home. There is also something to be said for a 2 x 12" speaker setup and if you like that sound then have fun.

Go to the store and check them out, I'd say. If you live anywhere near a large store you can learn more in an hour of wandering around there trying various amps than you can in a month on the internets.
