Well I wasn't sure you wanted me to post this in your Mod thread. I can delete the other one.
Thanks for looking it over for me. I appreciate your time. I will have to wait on the parts now and will let you know
how this pans out. :-)

I'm always happy to respond to repair questions or questions about mods to the BDRI here. Looking forward to hearing what happens after replacing the relays.

BTW, If this were my amp, I would definitely be tempted to use V2-B and wire it up in cathode follower config. like the bassman. I have to go back and see if you posted any sound bites or if there are some out there. Seems like a huge waste to me to not use it.

Using V2-B as a cathode follower would be a cool mod but could be tricky and maybe not very practical in a PCB based amp like the BDRI. However, here is a mod I found some time ago (but wasn't interested in implementing) to use the unused triode of V2 as an additional gain state ala the Hot Rod Deluxe's More Drive configuration. Not a simple mod, but not difficult if you know what you are doing.

Well, I recapped this amp and that went well, the relays came in and installed. Same problem. I'm wondering now if it isn't c53, drive pot, master pot, R19, or R45. So I guess I will pull those and check.

is there a way to disable the mute circuit temporarily?

TDY. Back home early Tuesday. Phone is only internet connection. Tough to look at schematic.

Just to update - I tried a phone plug and switching in the footswitch jack and it switches the same as the front panel jack. Seems to function normally. The voltages after recap or 16.7 and -17.3. I pulled up one leg of R78 and R79 to get them off the board as they get hot, and I don't want to burn this board. While up I measured them and they are both nearly right on 470 ohms. Still, I would rather put some Vishay Dale 5w or even 7 watt wire would power resistors there and well up and off the board. On the input side of R78 and R79 I have a solid +-50v. Due to higher than 120VAC wall voltage here I suppose. The D13 and D14 zeners are supposed to regulate the voltage at 16v so I"m thinking I should also replace them.
I'm going to go through the amp schematic and look at every test point again.

Just to chim in here. I'll give you another idea. Which ever schematic your using, I think there are a couple of versions and the component labels are different at times. And since you have a Fluke DVM. I kind of got lost when you mentioned R45 or whatever.

idea,
Using your electric guitar as a source (strum~~ing), just measure any AC voltage after/( (or before) each tube stage.
when you strum the guitar. Try it using the normal mode. Note normal aprox AC -Volt readings. Then try it in the Drive mode to figure which stage is losing the signal. You'll know when you see hardly any AC volts. Absolute value not important. Trouble-shoot that stage. Maybe this might help. Good luck.

We all know Bluesky can fix this, but he seems to be looking for the schematic.

Don't replace the zeners if there are ok, when measuring (verifying) your power supply voltages DC, switch that fluke meter to AC to check the ac component on the DV voltage, just in case. Just making two measurements with one probe connect. Verify all amp power supply voltages and check relay drive voltages, on/off condition. The schematic test points would be great places to check any AC voltage levels.

Some Dale resistors would be nice, but I hate to see parts replaced when really not necessary.
You got to get this fixed, its been too long. trying to help.

Schematic I posted matches the OP's amp. I just can't read a schematic very well on my phone while I am TDY in the field.

The OP has stated that the clean channel works fine so the problem would appear to be related to the few components that make up the drive circuit which is pretty simple.

HI, thanks to all that have helped. I lack an O'scope so at this point the amp will be going to a shop here in town that makes a living troubleshooting electronic devices. Thanks Bill and best to you brother.

Good luck. Let us know what is found.

I just got home this morning and will probably be TDY again next week. Tough to diagnose over the Internet without seeing the amp. I still feel that given the amp works fine in clean mode and you hear something in drive mode, the switching is working properly and the problem is somewhere in the few components that are unique to the drive channel.
