Does a DRRI have a fairly good bassy low end? All the clips I can find tend to make them sound weak in the lows and lacking warmth. Especially in comparison to the PRRI. Don't want another weak thin bottomed amp. Can't find any local to try. thanks

Welcome Buford

Not anything like a good twin (the bottom end) but for its size the DRRI is about as good as it gets.

I had a few and then got hooked on the vintage stuff, nothing like the old turret board stuff !!!
Now i play a Bandmaster Reverb 1968 through a tight 2x12 and it will bounce ya outa the room with low end !

Check around any good amp forum and you'll find the DRRI on the top of most guys list as a perfect amp for recording, small gig or a big one with a PA

Thanks bb and for the warm welcome as well, I actually found some clips deep in the back woods of ytube that sound pretty amazing. I've just gotta have a tube rectifier amp and this one seem like it will fit the bill nicely. I'm spoiled by my little H&K 25th aniversary afa bass goes and even with that, I can only expect so much from a small single 1x12 cab. Can't wait to get the DRRI.

I think my DRRI sounds pretty full. Not thin at all.

Again glad to have ya on board !

I learn way more than I am able to give advice here, There are some excellent Tube guys here who can sometimes overload you with technical talk but who are ready in any given moment to help you achieve tonal bliss 8)

I've learned how to safely tinker around with my tube amps and do some repairs through the help of half a dozen great player / techs here, hang around for a while and you'll find out more than you ever thought there was to know about Fender tone, history, circuits, tubes etc......

Its a fun adventure !!!!
DRRI's are excellent ! I will say the older models with the eminence speakers sound better to my ears, Have yet to find one of the "new Jensens" (made in italy) that sound very good to me.

Not right out of the box... you need a combination of good tubes, proper bias, and the right speaker.

Here's what I'd suggest, find a used DRRI in good shape ($600-700), find some decent 6V6 tubes ($50-100) and set the bias (very important!), find yourself an original Jensen C12N ($100-200), more efficient than the C10Q and does a better job handling the lows, you'd have one sweet sounding DRRI! You can also do the same with a 70s SFDR, if you can find one for a decent price...

For warmth I would highly recommend adding reverb to the normal channel and playing through that channel instead, unless reverb is not important then just play through the normal channel. The original Jensen and the normal channel will give you a very sweet warm tone!

My DRRI (bought new in 2010) is setup that way and it is the perfect amp for me.

Proper bias of the right type of tubes will make a big difference.
After that, speaker replacement will add to it.

I liked my DRRI a lot when I first got it. After replacing the above I love the sound! Nearly a new amp with the proper tubes and speaker combo.

Your ears are the final judge.

Welcome.

Sounds really nice, did you record it straight out of the box or did you edit it with eq software.

Went down to Tampa yesterday to pick it up. The guy selling it bought it 4 yrs. ago and barely used it so it was a bit dusty. Cleaned it up and it's like brand new. Even got the original sales slip since it still has a year warranty left on it. Paid 525.00 which I consider to be a good deal. Must say, it's a nice compact and light amp for grab n go. I can see why they're so popular. Much lighter than the mdf HRD I had thanks to real plywood. Didn't have a chance to crank it up but it seems like Channel 1 has a bit more bass to it. Read something about clipping a bright cap on Channel 2 to equal ch.1 Also, I'm not sure if it's normal or not but the vibrato effects is a little ticky sounding with the volume way down but seems to fade out when the volume is turned up.

I don't know how to edit  I have a simple setup, mic into a Presonus 2-ch box and I use Cubase LE.

You got a great deal! Looks brand new!

Trem tick is very common with these amps, I'm not a trem guy so I never use it... not sure what you mean by more bass, ch 1 is warmer, ch 2 has the bright cap. You can do the "Fritz" mod to bring reverb/vibrato to the normal ch or clip the bright cap.

BTW I'm in the Tampa Bay area.
