Hey guys (first post),

Im still saving for a gibson es-335 (srry:p), but i'm thinking of already getting a tube amp, because i really have a ****ty amp right now.
I have a fender strat and a gibson es-135 and i'm into classic rock (beatles, kinks, stones etc.) but also like blues very much.

I'm looking for a bluesy tone, like clapton in his cream period and on that dvd that was never released on songs that he plays his es-335 on.
I really like this tone of clapton:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hGMgyhNgzI

I've looked around and saw that much people recommend fender amps and also vox was recommended.

Can someone tell me which amp is the best to get?

(price below €1000= 1200 dollar (not the real economic value but that's about right with guitar equipment and not to loud, so no 100 watt amp:p)

That's a good load of info there! I have both a Vox and a Fender amp. If you wanna go for that Beatles sound then it's a Vox all the way - the cleans are brilliant - my model's an AC30CC2, but one thing I'd say about it is it's really really heavy :(.

Maybe try the one speaker version? They come with either a vox wharfdale speaker or a celestion alnico blue - I'd go for the alnico. It's about £550, or 690Euro or $1970.

any good?

I personally think one of the best all-around amps for just about any type of music is the 65 Twin Reverb ReIssue. If you get a chance give one a try 8) .

thx for the replies
I really love the beatles but i like the bluesy sound of clapton more

I was looking at the fender hot rod deluxe texas red ltd, but heard many complaints but also heard some good things.

Is this amp any good??

Or do you guys think it's better for me to get some more money and buy a fender supersonic, a fender 57 twin or a fender '57 deluxe amp?

If you have the budget for a '57 Fender Twin, that has my vote !!!! That is the top of the line amp. 8)

My budget is about 1200 dollar and i can't wait actually to get a new amp. I can wait and save some more money, but then it will take me two years to get the'57 twin. I prefer to buy one now.

So which amp is good in that price area for me???

GuitarDennis, An important question..... Where will you play the majority of time? In your bedroom? Small gigs? Large gigs?

It's important because the tone that you described by that Clapton era has some hair on it. If you play at low volume in the bedroom all the time, you will need a different amp than if you play at large gigs.

If you play at home, I would recommend a pro junior. Some will say that's even too loud, but it's not...especially with 335 humbuckers. The pro junior will get you very close to that tone with that guitar.

Another good option is the new SCXD, with numerous voices that can get you there too. Booth of those amps are 15 watters and can be used in smaller gigging situations.

If you need a larger amp, the hot rod deluxe can go a long way for you...and there are tons more such as the vox's you mentioned, Peavey Classic 30 and so on. $1200 will go a long way toward a very nice amp. The ones I have mentioned cost far less.

Thanks for the reply! I need about 30-40 watts for normal gigs.

I liked the hot rod deluxe texas red ltd with the celestion speaker very much, but much people say that the drive channels aren't so good and that they have many problems with those amp. My question is now:
Do the drive channels just suck or do most people think that because they play metal, hard rock and cant get enough drive out of the hot rod.

I just need to get an bluesy tone like clapton.

So is the hot rod deluxe a good amp for me?

The Hot Rod is hard to beat. I think you hear about problems because it is the largest selling amp of all time. Naturally you are going to hear about problems. I have one that is 12 years old and never had a problem at all.

Mine is the regular black tolex that I retubed and put an Alltone 1250 in. That made a significant improvemnt.

The drive channels do get a lot of differing opinions. I think they are good for certain things. For example...setting the regular drive channel at a lower drive gives a bit of hair at lower volumes. Some guys love to crank that gain and frankly, IMO most drive channel sounds bad like that. The regular drive is very usuable. The more drive can be a bit buzzy, but hey...it's there if you need it.

I play PJ's a lot so I have a pedalboard for them and use it when I need the umph of the hot rod....and it LOVES pedals!!!

Again, great all around amp, that doesn't break the bank and in the vast majority of cases, is very reliable.

thanks prolux

If i get the hot rod deluxe texas red ltd, do i have to replace the celestion vintage 30 speaker, or is it a good speaker?

If i get that amp, you suggest that it's better to replace the tubes? Whih one should i get?

I have 1000 euro and the hot rod is 800.

so i have 200 left (300 dollar) for some really good tubes.

Why not consider a Blues Deluxe Reissue ($700) and an Ibanez TS-9 tubescreamer ($100). This is a 40 watt all tube amp that preceded the hot rod deluxe. It has less gain than the hot rod, but if I read you correctly, you're not into metal anyway. It is a 1X12 combo, but if you think you need a larger amp then it's bigger brother the Blues DeVille Reissue at 60 watts (2X12 or 4X10) and around $900 is the predacessor to the hot rod DeVille. Again- less gain.

The tubescreamer needs no intro. It is probably one of the most popular 'overdrive' pedals on the market IMO, and gets great ratings. With it, you can have one OD level set on your channel 2 and a second with the TS-9.

If you can get to a store that stocks one, check it out.

I think i can get the money to buy maybe one of these. Which one is better for me??

I would say to try different Fender amps....from friends and music store. take your own guitar of choice with you and take your time trying each one out...playing like you would normally play, cause each one is gona sound somewhat different. Amps are alot like guitars in that no two are exactly the same. I work music quite regularly and use two amps, a '78 SFTR with a pair of old Black Widows loaded in her and a Vibrasonic loaded with a JBL 15' E130. Both are big tube amps, but both are very different from one another. While the old Twin is capable of cutting thru just about any stage mix, it can also be easilly tamed to be as docile as you could want, just by turning it down. it responds beautifully to your playing. It is a heavy amp, but worth it in tone and reliability.

My Vibrasonic, with that 15" JBL E130 can do anything my twin is capable of, but can reach to lower notes with force and sweetness. It has a tone all its own, but very much Fender all the way. While it's not quite as heavy as my Twin, it's still not a lightweight. But, again worth every pound in tone and reliability. I would recommend eith of these amps for their versatility, tone and reliability. And they can each be had for under a thousand dollars out there in today's market. Hope this helps.
