I think a combinaison of things will help you achieve what you are looking for.

First, the tube in V3 is used for the Burn channel.. Which tube did you put in V3? A popular tube like Electro Harmonix work fine in a darker tube-amp like the hot rod series, but not the super-sonic as it is too bright tube. A pre-amp tube like the tung-sol re-issue has warm & fat, and is high gain too, and might work better than the populars like the EH's and JJ's of the world.

Second, what you don't like may come from the stock speaker. How long did you have yours? The stock Celestion Vintage 30 is very stiff when new - you may follow the advice from the celestion.com web site unde Ask Mr Decibel on how to break-in the speaker. You should notice an improvement. Friendly advise: do this with ear plugs, or play from another room !

In my case, after breaking-in the speaker, there was still some harshness that I didn't like with my Epiphone Sheraton, With the single-coil Strat it was fine, but not with the humbucker-Sheraton. Simply lowering the lickups got rid of what I didn't like in my case.

If big bottom end is what you are looking for, the other thing to do would put to put your combo, if you play with the combo, against the wall, and set your treble near 3-4 and bass to 6-7. You will not get MArshall JCM-2000's bottom end from the super-sonic combo, but it should be close.

Hope this helps ! Keep us posted.
