In my quest to find a replacement amp for my Blues Jr. I know the '65 Delux Reverb is probably my best choice, however I'm seriously drawn towards the Vibrolux Reverb.
On my last trip to NYC I hit Sam Ash on music row, and test drove one there.
There's just something about that amp that appeals to me, I really like the sound of those twin 10" alnico magnet speakers, and with a touch of volume the smooth breakup it produces.

For the most part I'll be playing it in my bedroom at low volume, but when I'm home alone I will be cranking it up enough to enjoy the natural breakup this amp offers, and on those occasions when I drag to my buddy's basement for a jam session I know I'll be able to hear myself play over his 100 watt Marshall half stack.

Again, I know most here will tell me I'm nuts, and to get the '65 DRRI and put a pedal in front of it for a bluesy breakup, but "DAMN" there's just something about that Vibrolux Reverb......????

Well if you test drove one and it has "The" sound for you, then what are you waiting for? Doesn't matter if WE like it, it's whether YOU like it!

Personally, I love the sound of 10 inch speakers.

Go pick up the amp and have some fun.

Dude, I did an A/B comparison between the DRRI and the CVR and I ended up taking home the CVR. The DRRI was very good at reverb and "jangle", but I really found I preferred the tone of the CVR's 10 inch speakers and overall responsiveness. It was so much tighter and focused - especially in the low end. Just really punchy. Personally, I love the tone of my CVR and it's one of those amps I'll never part with.

BTW, it sounds AMAZING turned up! Low headroom, but the drive sounds awesome.

Not sure if that CVR comes with tube or solid-state rectification. But, a good tube rectifier (read GZ34 sure helps).

Also, the idle bias on the 6L6GCs maybe a tad "hot." This can lead to too early OD and compression. Worth a look.

Good luck! I love my SF VLR.

The CVR's power supply is near identical to that of the brownface Vibroverb re-issue, with a diode stack in lieu of a tube rectifier.

The deal is done, today I took my Blues Jr. to Guitar Center, traded it in, and ordered a new Custom Vibrolux Reverb. Having it shipped to my house, should have it by the middle or end of next week, the only problem is, since this will be a Christmas present from my family, I'm not allowed to play it until Christmas.....but the wait will be worth it.....

Guess I'll be spending more quality time with my Martin Acoustic for the next couple of weeks......

I had a DRRI for a few years... happened into a deal on a '63 Vibroverb Reissue and found the DRRI sat unplayed. i got a much sweeter low volume tone with the VVRI than i could get with a DR.

If it works, it works! Enjoy the new CVR!

Back in the 70's I bought a Super Reverb with 4-10's. I loved that amp. A friend borrowed it and it was stolen..........maybe, LOL. Anyway, very fond memories. I think it was 44 watts. I am surprised that this amp has not made a comeback. I guess, 10'' speakers are not so popular. It wasn't too heavy an amp either.

Congrats on the new amp! It would just kill me to have it sitting there and not be able to play it!

I haven't had a Fender amp with anything but 10 inch speakers until I refurbed a Bantam Bassman and went with a 15 inch 65 Jensen Concert Speaker...There is just something about a 10 inch speaker, and if you can get those tens working with a tube rectifier...well I am in pure heaven at that point!!!

YES!!!!!!!!!

Same wattage and speakers IIRC, but I bought it new either '73 or '74 and I believe is was SF. I do see that it is back. Think I paid $299.99 new for mine. MSRP was $499.99?

I have to tell you, the new SCX-2 is seriously making it easier to not miss that amp so much. I just wish they had the SR as one of the offerings in the amp modeling.

Thanks for the pic and reminder that it did not die.

Never let it be said I didn't do the least I could do......

The new CVR has arrived, as stated before this is my Christmas present from my family, and I have strict orders from the queen that I'm not allowed to play with my new toy until Christmas morning. However being the sensible consumer that I'am, I felt I should at least break it out of the box, check for damage, and make sure it functions properly so there's no disappointments come Christmas morning.

You know the old saying...."when the cat's away, the mice will play"......the queen and daughter left for a baby shower, they're out of the house for several hours, giving me the opportunity to do a full inspection of said Christmas present, that included a play test, that my neighbors no doubt heard..... .......this thing kicks $@!, and sounds far far better than my old Blues Jr. I'm sure once that pair of 10" alnico Jensen's are broken in it'll sound even better......

To be fair, I'll have to wait til after Christmas to give a full review since I only played it briefly, and with just the Tele, my Strat has to have a run at it before an honest review can be made.......

Congrats on a fine amp. Hope the wife doesn't have access to this forum or you are BUSTED !!!!

Now the hard part comes - waiting. At least Christmas will be very exccting for you. I did the same thing one year and the wait was excruciating.

Post some pics when you can.

Haven't even tried my Strat through it yet, the Tele sounds like a whole different guitar played through this amp compared to the Blues Jr......

I'm very pleased....
