Question for the AMP experts. I have a HRD 410 and recently it lost the preamp tube V1. I replaced it and all is well but I was wondering if I may have inadvertently created the problem.

I built a new extension cabinet with two 12" ET65 WGS speakers (They sound great by the way). All the research I've done just explains that as long as the cabinet is 8ohms i would be okay. Witch It is.... and I was using away at the amp and it sounded fantastic.

But I was away for three weeks so I unplugged and I covered my amp up and stored it away. When I got back I plugged it all in including the extension cabinet and nothing.... not a sound did it make... I looked round to the back of the amp and noticed that V1 preamp tube wasn't glowing at all. The next day bought and new GT 12AX7 and everything is running fine (in fact I think its sounds a little warmer)

This amp is only a year old so is this something common? Is it the cabinet? Just coincidence? Could the fact the amp sounds a bit smoother/warmer mean the V1 was getting bad?

The last thing I was expecting was for a preamp tube to go. Any info would be appreciated.

Jake

Bad tube, nothing more.

A wise decision.

Remember -- power tubes should be changed as matched pairs, and the amp's idle-bias checked (and adjusted as necessary) after installing them.

Rawk on!
