Hey everybody,
I'm in the market for a new amp, and I'm very open to suggestions and opinions.
I've been playing for about 3.5 years, I'm in a band, we play small clubs, many of which don't have pa's to mic the amps, so it's gonna have to be at least loud enough for a small club, but not so loud that I burst the ear drums of my neighbors when practicing.
I play a lot of different styles, but the two I'm most often playing are Jimi Hendrix type things, and then so good old fashioned garage rock (like ty segall, thee oh sees, stuff like that).
I'm looking for an all tube combo, and I don't want to spend my whole life-savings, but I also really want a great amp.
I play an american standard strat and an american standard tele.
I've kind of narrowed it down to: the super reverb, deluxe reverb, twin reverb, super sonic, hot rod deville 410, and the blues deville. But if y'all think that there are better options, i'd be happy to hear your opinions.

I love my Deluxe Reverb with both my HSS Strat and my Epiphone Les Paul Junior. It can get very loud and I can turn it down to usable levels at home with my young children in the next room watching cartoons. It's an all around great amp and it won't break your back carrying it to gigs nor will it break your bank. Mine loves pedals.

Of the options you listed, scratch the twin (too loud), the hot rod deville and blues deville can be somewhat unreliable, and not very road worthy (check out the complaints of problems on here) the supersonics hiss like all get out, so that leaves you with the Deluxe and Super Reverbs. I personally like 10 inch speakers, and am partial to the Super, but the Super can be a bit heavy, but it has a tone that is hard to beat. So either will work for what you listed, just look for the best deal on one.

FWIW

There's an untapped market evidenced here......a mid-power re-issue blackface combo with either a pair of 10's or a pair of 12's is sorely needed to fill a niche that resides between the DRRI and the SRRI. If only *someone* were listening (sigh).

Buehler......BUEHLER......?

Arjay, say a Re-issued Vibrolux Reverb? That would very interesting. The original ones are fun amps, with a lot of flexibilty. After getting that SF, I now know why I really wanted one, all these years.

SR if you can deal with the size and weight... it's also LOUD! Nothing comes close to that 4x10 tone, period. The only other option from your list is the DR. It's portable, great tone, plenty loud for small clubs.

A Deluxe Reverb should work fine for what you described.

I agree with Arjay. But, with the current available lineup, I'd go for the Deluxe Reverb.

Either the Deluxe Reverb or the Super Sonic 22 would do. I would give serious consideration to the Super Sonic. It's clean channel is modeled on the deluxe Reverb but it's dirty channel is much better. They are both around the same price. I will be buying one or the other in March, the decision will be tough to make.

There is also the Custom Virbrolux Reverb (40 watts) but I hear that they hiss quite a bit.

I've never seen one locally, so I can't say one way or the other.

I hear there are random quality issues with the SS22.

Can a pair of 10's be squeezed into a DRRI cabinet?
