Has anyone used Valve Art KT66 tubes in the BDLX RI? What about other KT66 tubes?

The KT66 will pull nearly 0.8 amp more heater current for the pair as compared to a 6L6 pair, and this will be an additional load on the PT. That's 1.8 amps heater current for a 6L6 pair, and 2.54 amps heater current for a KT66 pair. You might want to contact Fender about using the KT66 in your particular amp.

From thetubestore.com about using the KT66 in place of 6L6:

"Heater current was in the 1.3 amps per tube range as opposed to 900mA commonly found in a 6L6. The test amp (‘59 Fender Bassman) had good iron and there were no issues with heating or reduced heater voltage. Do not assume your amp will be as stable. If you do not know if your amp can handle the additional heater current draw, contact the manufacturer before installing KT66 tubes."

So the 7581 probably falls into the same category. I removed the Sovtek 5881WXTs and replaced with a pair of vintage Raytheon 6L6GCs that I had on the shelf and find that to be an improvement. I also found a set of RCA black plates that I got about a year ago that I may try. Any comments on the 2 choices

Excellent and excellent! :D

Be sure to set the bias when you change output tubes.

Those blackplate "nippers" are worth more than your amp!

:D Arjay, really, it is a nice amp. I bid on them and really did not expect to win with my bid, but ... I could quadruple my money now, for old tubes. For now the Raytheon tubes are staying put and the 5881 WXTs are going on ebay, they will never see the inside of the BDRI unless I decide to sell it, and that ain't happening. :)
