Great deals still do exist. Just picked this up for what it would cost me to eat lunch everyday for one week. Just couldn't pass it up. Sounds pretty dam good, I could only imagine what it would sound like with a 10" or 12". Any suggestions, I'm really contemplating a 12" external cab.

I see a lotta boutique-built cabs for those amps on Ebay -- sized for both a single ten- or a single twelve-inch speaker.

Thanks Arjay.

Might look into the Egnater Rebel 1 X 12 cab. Great cab, not too expensive.

Congrats on your new aquisition. Indeed it's a great little amp which no doubt will sound better with a bigger speaker.

In one of the pictures you posted, the back of the speaker reads "8ohm". I looked into mine and the speaker appears to be different. According to the manual that came with my Vibro Champ XD:
Power Output: 5W RMS into 4ohms
    Speaker: One 8", 4ohm Fender Special Design (P/N 0073857000)

Are there different versions of this amp or am I misunderstanding something about the specs?

Thanks and Cheers!

AFAIK all single-ended 6V6 Fender amps require a 4-ohm speaker.

I noticed the same thing, I have a "stinking" suspicion that the speaker was changed out. Maybe to fix the "powers up but no sound" problem this amp was having when I purchased it, one of the reasons I was able to aquire it for dirt cheap. I figured that for what I paid for it if I wasn't able to fix it I could just sell it for parts and still recover my initial "investment". So anyways, I took out the chasis, reseated all the connectors and viola, perfectly functioning amp. I've been playing it daily for about a couple of hours with no more problems.
But you're right, manual says 5 watts into 4 ohms. I think I'm gonna start looking for a new speaker. Thanks for the heads up guys.

I think Weber offers a pretty tasty 4-ohm speaker for Champs, Vibrochamps, and the like.
