am i the only one who finds speaker wattage ratings confusing?

here is my question. i have a 50 watt tube amp that i want to replace the speaker in. there are speakers out there that say 50 w. rms, and some that have different power ratings. they also have peak power listed. what would i be safe in putting in to my amp?. i am sure a lower capacity speaker wouldn't be good, but is, say, a 125 w. speaker capacity overkill?

thanks my fender friends

For a 50-watt amp, I'd feel comfortable using a speaker rated for 75 to 100 watts continuous program material.

Usually it's safe to go with twice the amplifiers rated output.

Use the "RMS" rating and not the "peak" rating. There is no problem using a very high wattage rating, as you stated it could be overkill, but will not cause any harm to the amp.
