I think your advice is two years too late.

There were two other guys on another forum I am on that had issues with Jeff 12ax7 s doing the same thing on their Excelsior. I am not a fan of JJ 12ax7 in general. I like Tungsols or EHX gold and Genelex when I have the money, especially for inverters. I actually like the Groove Tubes in my Pro. He didn't say he had a Pro. In the original brown I tried it just had generic tubes, though since Fender owns Groove Tubes they were probably still theirs. Try Tungsols. They should give you more of a Tweed feel.

Tung-Sols would be my choice as well,...I hear they're pretty good tubes and thinking about getting a set for my HRD III as spares in case the factory GT ones quit for whatever reason! I've learned as a ham radio operator to always have spare components around in case something fails,...such as a PL-259 connector.

If it aint' broke,...don't fix it! I like to keep my amps and guitars factory original,...no mods necessary,...don't want them,...don't need them!

My gear as of now;
Standard Strat
Hot Rod Deluxe III amp
Champion 20 amp
'59 Bassman LTD Reissue
