I have a Super Reverb RI which is great but often too loud too really crank it to decent tube saturation.

Basically i have 2 options:

1. Power Attenuation (THD Hotplate 2 Ohms or something)

2. Getting a lower watt amp for smaller venues and practice.

The second ofcourse is the more expensive option but gives me a 2nd amp. For this i'd like to use a Blues Junior. However 1x12 is a lot more boxy sounding than the massive 1x10 the super reverb has. To solve this, i'd like to use the Super as a cabinet for the Blues Junior. That way i can push the volume of the blues junior for that nice overdriven sound, but still have the wall of sound coming from the 4x10 speakers.

However; The SRRI is 2Ohms, and the Blues Junior is 8 Ohms. Which results in a impendance mismatch. Question is if there is a simple way to solve this (without having to mod the amps or whatever)

If you rewire the Super Reverb's four 8-ohm speakers to a series/parallel configuration the result will equal the requisite 8 ohms that the BJr would prefer to see.

A Blues Jr is going to sound very different from an SRRI regardless of what speakers it is playing through. Also, depending on the efficiency of the SRRI speakers, you may not find the volume difference to be that great between the two amps. Using an SRRI as a cab for a BJr. seems rather insulting to the SRI. My recommendation would be an attenuator.

Why not pick up a DRRI or a PRRI and be done with it?

Whatever pedals and/or effects you're using with your SRRI will work just fine with either amp.

I've had a DRRI, but it sounded too boxy compared to the great wall of tone the SR delivers. I've had the DRRI, the TRRI and the SRRI lined up during band rehearsal, and while the Twin was just too much violence, the Deluxe didn't seem te spread and cut as well as the Super Reverb.

I don't use attenuators, but the one you named is popular as are the Webers:

+1, modding a SR for the sake of a Blues Jr would be absolute sacrilege.

And if you thought a DR sounded boxy, I can't understand why you'd rather a Blues Jr - Granted I know you'd rather a different cabinet for it.

You might just be too accustomed to how sweet the SR sounds cranked.. as it should be. I think a Princeton, that you can push without an attenuator (and this is actually quite loud), may be your best bet.

Using a Super Reverb as a cabinet for Blues Junior, Possible?
Yes, very possible.

A simple way to solve this without modifying the amp?
No, not possible. Modification will be required as per Arjays instructions.

Would it be worth the time and effort?
Only you can decide.

Good luck and have fun on your journey.

" Super Reverb RI which is great but often too loud too really crank it. "

What kinda speakers did that SRRI come with? Boy, I'll tell you one thing, my SFSR with those CTS alnico 10-inchers sound GREAT at "4" or "8+." It maybe that the RI comes with some squirrely RI speakers that just don't sound too good, at any volume. Sometimes, these kinda speakers sound too loud, at "1" if you catch my drift. :D

I haven't played through an SRRI, so I really don't know how it compares to the BF or SF ones. But, I know of NO ONE that uses these amps just for a speaker cab. And not use the amp. IMHO, one of the finest amps ever built.

OEM drivers for the SRRI are the offshore C10Q imports.

I watched a u tube video today featuring the much coveted wgs speakers in a srri and they sounded pretty dam close to the original speakers from a vintage super reverb. Just a tad more high end and great bottom end.

Thanks for the input guys, and yeah smaller amp is off the table. The Princeton turned out to be the only real option, but is a no go for me budget wise, and i'm just too attached to the 4x10 wall of sound.

I've ordered a Weber Mass 100, and i'm going to mess around with Beam Blocker kind of solutions.

The Stock speakers are: 4-10" Jensen® P10R 8 Ohm Speakers with Alnico Magnets.

I always heard that Jensen speakers are great?
