I've noticed a tube rattle in the V4 position of my BDRI.
It doesn't appear to be the tube as I swapped V4 and 5 but the rattle remained in the V4 position.
Does this indicate a further issue maybe in the socket, or just a trait of these amps.
Are the tube damper rings a worth while solution?
Tubes are JJ 6L6 GCs btw.

Cheers in advance.

If it is not the tube , tube damper will not be useful IMO. Can you press de tube in V4 when rattle to see if ratlle stop ?

I would check for some loose screw somewhere in the chassis or cabinet.

Yes. The rattle stops straight away. But I don't think it's the tube because when I swap v4 and 5, the rattle remains at v4 with either tube in it. Hence my thinking that a possible fault somewhere else manifesting as tube rattle.

Have you tried re-tensioning V4's pin sockets?

The pins used in the sockets of the BDRI are not like the pins that you are used to. I can't describe them, but they are not like rolled cylinders. I discovered this when I was trouble shooting my failed tube in my BDRI.

To dc01: Look around in the area of V4/V5 at the various wiring harnesses. Play the amp with the back cover off of it and tell us if it still rattles. I found that the various harnesses in my BDRI were vibrating against the back cover. I redressed them and used a washer on the inside of each bolt hole on the back cover to space it away from the chassis. All noises went away.

They kinda looked like a "T" with a long stem. The crossbar of the "T" was bent slightly to grip the tube pin. You can sorta bend and twist them to be a little tighter, but not like an old style socket works. It seemed that they really didn't have much contact area with the tube pin compared to the traditional socket.

I think I prefer the older mil-spec sockets.

The rattle is still present from v4 with the back cover off.
Also, only certain notes cause the rattle. The worst being an e on the 7th fret, g string.

If you are positive it is not the tube itself, check all nuts, bolts, screws, cables, etc. in the vicinity of V4 for vibrations. Make sure the tube socket and circuit board are screwed down tight. These kinds of noises can be extremely difficult to pin down. In my two tube Champ 600, I was positive the power tube was rattling. Turned out to be the preamp tube.

Cheers Bill.

I'm pretty certain it's not the tube, as the rattle remained at V4 when I swapped the power tubes over.
I can feel the rattle on the glass of the tube with a very light touch. If I press the bottle itself the rattle changes character and becomes muted.
I might change the tubes for elimination purposes.

Bluesky, are these sockets the kind with the "slots" on each side of the socket hole? I usually solder a layer onto the tube pins, themselves if the owner of the amp doesn't want to spring for better sockets. A temporary cure, esp if the owner loves to roll tubes.

Boy, there are some pretty cheesy off-shore teflon sockets out there. The US made Amphenol ones with slots seem to hold up pretty well. Esp mil spec versions.

It's easy to see the tangs to adjust in the non-"slotted" sockets.

Yes, the ones in the BDRI look like those in the top photo.

The ubiquitous adage "They sure don't build 'em like they used to" immediately springs to mind......
