Just landed a new in the box Vibro Champ XD at a super price. Then I found that it is now discontinued I believe. I can only assume this, as it's not listed in the products section any longer nor in the registeration section either.

No matter I suppose. I enjoy its simpilicity of operation as opposed to the Mustang that only confussed me to no end. I like knobs (pots and switches) rather than trying to use a computer to dial in my tone. Just couldn't get the Mustang's deal. THe Mustang is at my neighbor's place now as he's a computer whiz. The little Vibro Champ XD is a snap to use though. Plus it's a little critter with some tube output tone and I like that. I could not get the amp registered, but no matter either I suppose. I have the schematic and if something konks out, I'll fix it in my shop. Oh well.

Having that said, I do enjoy how it functions and the lower wattage is welcome in my house. I've had lots of big amps over the past 50 years, and since I no longer gig, the smaller ones are just fine for me. This, along with a modified Frontman 25R, are now the main amps for me. Plenty of tone and such to keep this oldman happy.

Thanks for listening,

Wade

Online registration has nothing to do with warranty coverage -- it's purely for marketing information (and they don't really care about the demographics of people who buy stuff they don't make anymore).

The sales receipt is all you need for warranty service, and you have full coverage for the life of the warranty. (In some situations they replace rather than repair, so in a worst case scenario you might get stuck fixing it yourself instead of accepting a Mustang or similar as a replacement, but as long as you bought it new from an Authorized Retailer you do have warrany coverage even though it's discontinued.)

Yhe Vibro Champ XD was replaced over a year ago by the Super Champ X2. Stores still may have the VCXD in stock and will usually sell them at a reduced price to make room for the new models.

As strayedstrater said, all you need is your sales receipt for warranty coverge. Registering anything only opens the door to spam.

Thanks guys. Been ages since I bought a new amp. Didn't know about the registering thing as a marketing deal. I'm not a computer whiz and seldom understand much of it. But give me a sick amp or a guitar that is a wreck....I can get 'em back to life easy. But even trying to post a pic in the forum? I have no clue about that stuff!

Being a retired tech, repairs are never an issue for me. Got the schematic and layout. That's all I need. Likely have most of the parts still in my shop except for chips and such..It's all good though. I really enjoy the things this little guy can do though and I'm not a digital guy by any means.

Great forum folks. Though I'm new to it, I'm not new to the business. I look forward to my time here.

Thanks,

Wade

Welcome to the forum Wade. I have a Vibro-Champ XD too, and find it to be a great little amp, it has some really nice tones in it. It's great around the house and in any room in my house it actually sounds much bigger than it is!

Guys, you're right about it being a great little amp. It's funny in a way as I used to gig with a Twin I bought new in '66 and had a Deluxe Reverb as a back up that I got later that same year. Always had enjoyed a Fender amp over any other out there. Was forced to sell my oldies a few years ago and regreted it ever since. But it's ok. Got a modified FM25R (sounds like a Bassman now!) and this VCXD and it's all good.

Odd in that with the acoustic voicing, the only A/E guitar I own is an old Charvette 500. That's the one that looks like a Telecoustic, but is a mahogany body with a little preamp. Great neck though,,,,but back to the XD. I tried running that guitar with the acoustic voicing and it sounded tinny and the bass notes simply made the cone flap like crazy! Couldn't get it to sound right at all. Switched to the Champ voice and it came to life with gobs of tone! Weird huh?

But I do like this now discontinued amp!

My guess is that the acoustic voicing is actually an acoustic simulator -- it's not "voiced for acoustic-electric", it's supposed to make a solidbody electric sound like an acoustic guitar. If that's the case it would make an acoustic-electric sound really weird.

Give the acoustic voicing a try with an electric guitar and see if it kinda-sorta makes it sound like an acoustic (the acoustic simulators I've tried aren't totally convincing -- they sound like a passable imitation, not the real thing).

+1

My Zoom G1-X amp simulator has a similar effects module. It doesn't do much for a standard six-string electric but I can pull off a pretty authentic "Wanted Dead Or Alive" when using my 12-string Stratocaster.

Well the acoustic voicing doesn't cut it for me. Just too spikey and sounds flat out bad. But there are enough good voicings in this little box to keep me happy. I know it sure is easier and sounds better than that Mustang II I got talked into buying a few months ago. That Mustang gave me pure fits the day I got it. Hadda have a computer whiz (my neighbor and fellow picker) come in and set up things and do all kinda junk on and off line...the list goes on...I sold it to my buddy under a week. Sounded awful and was like I was in a bad video game trying to set it up. Worst amp I've had in years...

The Vibro Champ XD is a snap tp set up! The tone is devine. And the fact that it has that warm tube poweramp is just icing on the cake for me. Real knobs that are attached to pots and rotory switches are far more my style than having to go into a computer and play the "Fender Amp Video Game" everytime..Nope, I glad to have that amp attached to a computer with a cord like it's a space shuttle gone. And this great little amp in my stable just makes this oldman smile. :D

If you're happy then FMIC is happy.
