Lately, whenever I'm playing it, I hear some sort of fuzzing that comes on and off during playing. It happens on both channels when the amp is operating. Sorta comes and goes, now I'm no electrician but I think It's electrical. Could it be the power amp section, perhaps? Maybe it needs new power tubes?

Are you sure that it isn't some kind of interference from outside the amp, such as the electrical outlet, or other appliance noise being picked up by the guitar? I would first try another room and another outlet on a separate electrical circuit to see if any difference. Of course, be sure that the outlet is grounded properly.

If you're sure that the noise is from the amp, then the tubes would certainly be the first suspect, preamp or output. No guarantee that it's a tube problem, just likely. Since you say it happens on both channels, that would eliminate V3 as a suspect, leaving V4 (PI) or an output tube. Substitution with known good tube is one way to be sure.

Thanks for the reply, I tried connecting it to various electrical outlets, but still nothing. And it's actually more of a random "pop" followed a crackling sound, like a bad potentiometer being adjusted. It happens every few minutes or so. I removed the 2 old 6L6 tubes for some new Tungsol brand 6L6 tubes. I still hear the popping and crackling every few minutes... I'm just praying that it's the preamps tubes. I ordered them today, so they should be arriving sometime from friday to next monday. After I replace them, I'll post my results.

Cool, let us know. Make sure to check/adjust the bias when changing output tubes.

team_sleep, this sounds like a case of impedance mis-match, between the pedal and the amp's input. Very similar to what used to be a big issue with the 1 million variety of passive and active pickups and various set input impedance of the amps.

This problem was also common between early or high gain EFX pedals and tube amps.

Rule of thumb:

Image

Should have at least 1:10 ratio of impedance, esp between pup or EFX pedal and the input stage of the amp (esp if it has a 12AX7 as an input tube). 1:50 or 1:100 maybe better (like 20K-ohm output and 100,000 K-ohm+ inout).

Try a a lower gain input tube (less Miller effect)---- iike a 12AT7 or even a 12AY7. And see if this help the excess fuzz and OD issues.

Good luck!

Deluxe VM has no input tube, but a SS input, 1 meg impedance.

What pedal?

Did you reply to the wrong thread BMW2002Ti?

Sounds more like a response for the DRRI/pedal/vibrato thread. :?:

I guess it goes without saying to make sure the instrument cable and jack on the guitar are not causing the snap-crackle-pop....
