the champ sounds good but a little to thin to me.
Maybe I should concider the EC Vibro Champ... but that one is pretty expensive.

What do you expect for a 6" speaker? That's why I normally play it through a separate cab with a 12" Celestion. You need to come to the realization that a small amp with a small speaker is not going to sound the same as a larger amp through a larger speaker. That's why most of us that use small amps play them through separate cabs.

The EC Vibro Champ has an 8" speaker.

Yes was my id also; small amp with bigger speaker
(read upper posts, someone claims it will not work)

Do you have soundsamples of the champ with the cab ?

Please excuse the false start and crappy playing.

Guitar: 2009 Fender MIM Standard Strat, neck pickup.

First part clean. Second part, slight push from E-H LPB-1.

Thanks.

The OP needs to understand that compromises must be made to get an amp to play at "bedroom" levels.

Thanks for posting the sound sample.

In this sample it's less thin, there is some bass present when you tingle-tangle on the low strings :) I hear some reverb also ? where is that coming from ?

Volume is louder but it's still ok.

Actually I don't play THAT silent at home, but I like that "clean - on the edge of breakup" tone...

Is the champion 600 hardwired or easy to connect to extension cab ?

You're welcome.

You need to understand that you are not going to get a lot of bass out of a small amp played at low levels. Due to a combination of low power, low volume, small speaker, and the ear's lack of sensitivity to low frequency sound at low levels, the bass is always going to sound light. What you consider "thin" bass, I call "tight" bass with no flubbing or farting. Sure, you could boost the bass level, but then you are going to run into problems. Even running the amp into a larger speaker is not without problems. Due to the design of the amp circuit itself, the low bass was actually TOO MUCH when I first played through a larger speaker.

I have significantly modified my C600. I have converted it to a modified 5F1 (57 Champ) configuration. You can read all about it here:

viewtopic.php?f=13&t=63259

I went through a rather lengthy process of analysis and experimentation to arrive at my desired tone. It may not be what you are looking for, but it satisfies my desires. Note that it is not absolutely necessary to mod the amp. Many people are quite happy with a tube, speaker, and grille cloth change (changing the grille cloth is mandatory in my opinion as the stock cloth muffles the sound greatly).

To answer your specific questions, I play through a Boss FRV-1 reverb pedal. Just enought to open the sound up a little. The stock speaker plugs into the amp via a phone plug/jack just like the bigger Fenders, making it easy to hook up an external speaker. Although the stock output transformer and speaker are 4 ohms, my cab with Celestion G12P-80 is an 8 ohm cab which the amp is able to drive with no problems at all.

I only use the E-H LPB-1 when heavy overdrive is desired. The amp is very touch sensitive and responds well to all types of pickups (I have stacked humbuckers/noiseless types in my Fenders, PAF type humbuckers and Filtertron type humbuckers in my other guitars).

You went to a lot of work to get where you wanted :)
I think I will not look any further for the champion 600, it's a little cool thing, it has that fender tone ... but it is limited in features and little thin.

I like the sound coming from my blues jr, so I will try to keep this as a starting point.

To get it to the edge of breakup I could use a pedal or an attenuator.
Both will have disadvantage compared to cranking the amp to make it sing.

Maybe another mi audio blues pro pedal (have 1 and really like it) to stack, 1 to get that edge of distortion and 2nd for lead...or still the weber mini mass as suggested.
Both are about the same price.
