- Silverface champ ... can't find it here :)
- Champ 600 : can find it pretty cheap, but no reverb, 6" speaker ...
(1/5 price fender blues jr used OR 1/3 price fender blues jr new)
- Eric Claption vibro champ (5watt) : really expensive (almost 2x blues jr price)

Still doubting about smaller wattage amp or attenuator and leaning towards attenuator...

update :
old used silverface champ : more then 2/3rd the price of a new fender blues jr.
old used vibro champ : more then 2/3rd the price of a new fender blues jr.

Im afraid even with an attenuator at the levels your talking about you won,t be happy with the sound from your BJr.

The fact that you can't find much info about using a BJr with an attenuator should tell you all that you need to know.

Frankly, it sounds like you want something that is impossible to have, ie you want the sound of your low watt amp through headphones, but somehow get that same sound through an amp with a 12 inch speaker. :|

No, actually the sound of the HT1-R is very good, edge of breakup on clean with acceptable volume for home usage. It's just lacking some ...some thickness, it's not moving air, that's normal because it has too little speaker. The reason that it sounds good with headphone is because then it's not lacking this thickness, sound is full then. (don't know how to describe that) I would like this kind of volume/breakup that this little amp has, maybe a little more headroom but with fender tone ... and bigger speaker.

So the best way I could describe it, I want something like between 1 to 5 watt Fender tube amp with a 12" speaker :)

Give me a 1 to 5 watt tube amp with a 12" speaker now !

It appears those silverface champs are very close to that what I'm searching, but they go high in price here, not easy to find... and also old ones I'm not a fan of (I am playing without electrical grounding here, then would have to add isolation transformer and stuff)

The weber minimass that was suggested, combined with the fender blues jr, still looks like the second best option to get fender tones on lower wattage with bigger speaker.

I can get a fender champ 600 for example but then again I am stuck with small speaker...
Maybe this one with extention cab ... but it's hardwired i think.

At this moment I am doubting between SPL Reducer and Weber Minimass.
Or another solution if it comes up...or another amp I haven't heard about :)

why not ? for example a 1 watt fender champ with a 12" ?

My 1 watt ht1-r can drive an 8ohm cabinet, even 4x12"....

I think because even if it could drive the 12" speaker, which it could, the transformers play a big part in how the speaker reacts coupled with the filter caps etc. I had a champion 600 for some time that sounder great with the stock speaker and although I could use it to drive my 212 cab it just couldn't push the speakers hard enough, and the lows just weren't as tight as they should be. I don't think tbazzone is saying it won't do it, I think he's saying you might not be as impressed as you might think. Just a thought. Hope this helps.

Hmm, there are some real positive reviews / posts about the blackstar ht1 with an extention cab.

So you wouldn't recommend the champion 600 then ?

I would recommend a 600 but it won,t sound like a amp thru a 12in speaker at a good volume.

My 5F1 modified Champ 600 through a 6" Jensen Mod speaker. The guitar used is a 2009 Fender MIM Standard Stratocastor with SCN pickups. The neck pickup is used. Simple chord progression. There are 5 samples:

1. Amp on "12", guitar on "6"
2. Amp on "12", guitar on "8"
3. Amp on "12", guitar on "10"
4. Amp on "12", E-H LPB-1 at 9:00, guitar on "10", heavy strum
5. Amp on "12", E-H LPB-1 at 9:00, guitar on "10", light strum

Listen to it at around 1:40.

I need to post a sample of it through the 12" Celestion cab I normally play it through. Sounds like a totally different amp.

Ever thought about a Pignose 7-100? 1970's LA made ones are the best (along with early Gardena ones). No 12-inch speaker. But they have a pretty nice range of tone.
