Shimm~ thanks for the killla photos - and Peng, your SS22 does not have a red LED?

Peng, my SS22 went thru a few bumps while i was learning this amp.
I had a preamp tube that was ratty bad. After narrowing down the rattling tube, I replaced it with a Mullard 12ax7. Tone was great! But wouldn't you know it, THAT tube was rattling bad too ( I always take a suspecting tube and test it on another amp just to make sure it is not something else.) Anyways, after another 12ax7, I was good there.
The power tube cage/shield was loose as well and causing vibration noise. I ended up just taking the thing off.
I noticed that the clean channel has more fuller sound. Keeping the bass knob on the clean channel down around 3-4 keeps vibration noise down too~ even with the bass on 3, still has fuller sound than the dirty channel with the bass all the way up. You know how some combo amps speaker/s can vibrate the hell out of the tubes especially if the bass is up too much
Make sure all the phillips head screws are tight too~
maybe this will help - or you have already tried this - or something else?

A bit unusual for the socket to rattle, but as you said before, maybe something around the socket is loose. Maybe it is the tube retainer, or the screws for the socket mount? With the tubes removed, make sure that the screws are tight, and then carefully squeeze/bend the tube retainer clips toward the middle to make sure that they will contact the tube base when the tube is inserted.

I've tightened the tube retainers and all screws. I've even installed new screws and tightened those! The sound is more of a buzz and it changes as I wiggle the tube. Is it safe to play with the chassis open to see what's going on?

Sure, as long as you don't touch anything inside while power is on. If something is loose, you don't need the amp on to wiggle the tube and socket to check. If you do need to touch parts inside the chassis, unplug from electricity and double check that caps are drained using a volt meter.

There lies the problem. The rattle is only present when I'm playing. I can't reproduce it just by shaking the tube alone.

Sadly, Arjay's signature is starting to apply to this situation...
