Hi. I'm a newbie, here. I know it's been discussed countless times..but I haven't seen an answer to this yet:

I just picked up a used BJ NOS from craigslist and had it modded by billM. Included the 30w conversion. It's amazing and I'm really happy with it as my grab and go. Great sounds.

I've heard different speakers through the BJ. Texas Heat, Li'l Texas, and Cannabis Rex. They all sounded great with the CR being my favorite. Mine has the C12n in it and it didn't sound as good as the other speakers when I compared. However: it's weakest point is the bridge pickup, as you know. That ice pick thang. But I think it sounds really nice and clean in all the other settings/pups on my G&L Tele, Strat, and LP. Very crisp.

What I'm wondering is whether the C12n will mellow out a bit once it's broken in? I know the old ones are much sought after. But they've, obviously, had a lot of time to break in. Will the newer one break in nicely, too? I like to put time into new gear before I make a decision. Wondering if anyone here's had a C12n for awhile and can chime in.

Thanks for your time.

Give the speaker 40 or 50 hours of robust play and I think you'll hear a remarkably pleasant difference in its tone.

Thanks. It does help and goes along the lines of my intuition. I like it's tones at low volume, as is, and have found, ime, that the louder volumes tend to follow suit as the speaker breaks in.

+1

You have excellent intuitive skills. The more that the suspension and surround flex and loosen, the easier it is for the speaker to hit the sweet spot at ever-decreasing volume levels. This is true for all paper-cone speakers regardless of brand.

My first post and I actually said something intelligent.
That's a good sign.
Thanks for the insight, Retro. I like a bright speaker. The single coils are a given, but it lets the Les Paul do it's thing as well as anything with lots of bottom to it. Nice and tight.
