Hi guys,

New to the forum so a big hello (and in typical new member style, a question)!

Started playing guitar a year or so back after a couple years on bass. Got an American Deluxe strat as i'd always wanted a strat and had a student loan burning a hole in my pocket at the time.

Anyhow I'm after a new amp to pair it with. I'm really into that clean (and sometimes subtly/warmly crunchy) blues tone and i'm not into heavy distortion. As I'm playing at home the 40watt Blues Deluxe Reissue seems like a ticket to eviction, the Eric Claption models seem too pricey, but the Blues Junior seems to fit the bill quite nicely from the posts I've read on here.

I've seen that a few of you have them in an awesome tweed (not lacquered) covering and i would love to get my hands on one in that style. My online search (I'm in the UK) has resulted in a dead end as they appear to have been discontinued and are usually limited factory runs or something. I read on this forum that these limited factory runs are common and I was wondering if you knew when these 'specials' typically came out and if they are likely to do a tweed one again? I'll kick myself if I settle for a black one and then a month later they suddenly appear :(

Cheers guys

The Blues Juinor is pretty loud as well...

I have a BDRI and I bought a 50 watt Weber Mini Mass to tame it down for practice at home and not shaking crap off of the walls. Works great

More good tube amps are always a good thing though.. 8)

Hi Flea24,

Have you checked eBay (or similar) for a good used one?

Thanks for the promt reply guys.

majorbytes, Does attenuating the amp have any detrimental effects on tone/amp damage? Also what kind of 'quiet' does it do? can you actually turn it down quite a bit and get good results?(forgive me I am unfamiliar with attenuators).

Shimmilou, I did have a quick check just before but only found lots of amp mod kits, I'll keep looking though, is there anything I should watch out for when it comes to used tube amps? What do they go for second hand (assuming good condition)?

Cheers guys

I have used it on all three of my tube amps and no magic smoke has escaped yet. I do not dime my amps out either. I can dial it down all the way to silent and track with the line out into my mixer for silent recording. They also offer a headphone out on the Mini Mass. I have a MXR 10 band EQ in my effects loop and it compensates for any of the treble loss, if any. The Mini Mass has a switch you can adjust the treble with as well. You do lose a little treble with it cranked way down to almost silent, but with the switch you can adjust it well.

I use it the most on my Egnater Tweaker. I usually keep the Tweaker's master and gain around 2 o'clock and then dial down the Weber to a tolerable level in close quarters. Otherwise it would knock me out of my chair at those levels. I find that by using the attenuator has allowed me to get the same picking dynamics at a lower level, so when I do get to crank it up a bit, I know how to attack the strings to get the tone and sustain I want...

Many thanks majorbytes thats opened up an avenue of tweed heaven :) i'll have a try of a blues deluxe next time im in my local guitar store but i might need to save my pennies a little longer if i got that with a minimass.

Still on the prowl for information regarding tweed blues juniors as that might suit my needs and budget a little better. any thoughts on whether the tweed blues junior will return as a factory special maybe?

There is a "Chocolate Tweed" limited edition with the Jensen P12Q speaker.

There are several new limited editions for the BJr on the site.

The Chocolate Tweed gives me vibes of a Chocolate orange and im not sure i like it over the vibrant tweed. I see that these specials all have different speakers which confuses me.

I'm into sparkly clean blues (think along the lines of Robert Cray) rather than heavily distorted. any recommendations?

I'm thinking a better amp for staying away from eviction notices would be a Champ. The Blues Junior can still be kinda loud when it's set to sound its best, ie: master up. I bet you could find an older SilverFace Champ in great shape for about the price of a Blues Junior or close to it and I'm positive it would sound better and be more appropriate for your flat.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
