I'm looking for input for a suitable replacement for my Hot Rod DeVille 410 - its just too loud for the small clubs my bands been playing. I'm considering; Super-Sonic 22, Blues Deluxe RI, or maybe Blues Jr. - lower wattage, reverb, effect loop would be a plus. We play mostly old gomper rock and Stones-ish country. Any opinions would be appreciated. I live in Montana, so the local dealer inventory is pretty bleak. Thanks

I'd recommend the Deluxe Reverb but your effects-loop stipulation renders that option DOA.

I would also agree the 65 Deluxe Reverb is pretty hard to beat in that range.

I would go for the Blues Deluxe. I have an older Blues Deville 4 x 10 and that thing is LOUD, but clean, but frigging heavy. I bought a 50 watt Weber Mini Mass for my Blues Deluxe and that allows me to get the grit at a lower volume. Best 100.00 I have spent in awhile. The Blues Deluxe has an effects loop and it is working really well with all of my effects. I also installed an Eminence C-Rex in the Blues Deluxe and it put the tone over the top for me...

I have never seen a Blues Deluxe at any of the stores in Missoula, but you can grab them on a four or eight pay at zzounds.com.

I have a 2 X 12 ext. cab with two 16ohm Emi Texas Heats in it that I use with my Blues Deluxe when I want to get loud...

The Blues Deluxe really does not have enough drive for me, so I use an EH Soul Precher, Hardwire CM2 and a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 in that order to get the drive I need. Between the three of those pedals I can just about get all of the drive and distortion that I could ever want..

Thanks for the input, yeah, the Blues Deluxe, seems to keep coming back as the forerunner. I've got plenty o' pedals to pummle the front end -Radial PB-1, Bixonic Expandora, VS Rt. 66, VS Angry Fuzz - so the drive channel's not too much of an issue. I also just got a line on a Dr. Z Carmen Ghia, any thoughts? The only thing with that amp that concerns me is no effect loop, I do like to run some delay and mods at times - which is why the Super-Sonic 22 is appealing (having the effects loop and being able to bypass it). Maybe I'm making too big an issue of it.

At forty watts, the Blues Deluxe is still a pretty loud platform.

Have you looked at Egnater's Rebel 20......?

Dr Z amps are in another world of quality and sound from your HR Deville - great sounding amp head, but you need to be happy with that sound.

I've never had the need for an effects loop; given that there are multiple better amps out there (Dr Z, Deluxe Reverb) I'd suggest that not having an effects loop not bother you. It's just as easy to get a true bypass loop pedal and put your delay/mods on that and not worry about an amp's effects loop.

Good luck; I'd certainly get a Deluxe reverb (SF, Reissue or BF if you have the $$) before I got a Blues/HR Deluxe. Build quality alone.

Thanks!
Yeah, I'm probably over sensitive regarding the effects loop, I usually don't run a huge amount of effects and that Radial PB-1's line buffer is really cool. I'll give a listen to the Dr. Z but Deluxe Reverb RI always gets the high marks - thanks again.
