I believe the statement is that Twins won't get natural tube distortion at reasonable levels without going deaf. I've had a Twin for over 30 years and the amp is clean. You need a pedal of some sort for distortion. I don't know about the reissues. Some had a 25 watt switch. Mine had a master volume and I still had a hard time getting natural tube distortion.

I played through the PRRI with many different guitars. I have Les Paul's with '57 Classics and Burstbuckers. I also played my ES-335 through the amp as well as various Strats with single coils. The humbuckers do drive the amp to distort earlier. Really neat tone difference IMO. I have both Fender and Gibson's.

Aloha 63supro,
Yeah, I know what you mean about your "Twin". The one my buddy has didn't have a master volume and was 85 watts. Fender company has created a reissue of that model although I alway thought his was a '66 rather than '65.
In either case, they both run the same "763" circuit. Your "Twin" if I'm not mistaken has the "568" circuit. Am I correct? This is just what I've been told and not an electronics tech. His amp had that bubbly, expanding sound. The kind of sound that seems to keep growing or expanding long after the note has been picked. Is anyone relating to this description? Anyway, they're all basically good.
Have a great day everyone, you know what that means.................Beer!

I'm sorry, but I think the PRRI is too expensive--it sounds really good, but for the bucks, I don't know. If the price point dropped by $150, I might consider it.

My local Guitar Center had a Mint condition real '65 PR for $2500. I put them side by side and A/B them. It was a no-brainer. I could buy the reissue and a guitar at the same time. I walked out with the PRRI.

Well thanks to this thread, I purhased a Princeton last night. During the afternoon yesterday I demo'd a Princeton against a Blues Junior, 65 Super Reverb, and a Deville 212. I've been searching for "my" sound and I found it in this little amp. I was planning on a Deluxe or maybe a Junior becuase I'm used to bigger amps but I loved the Princeton. The vid with Joe helped a whole lot as well. I think buying gear is a very personal thing and while the comments in the forum didn't influence my decision, I can tell you the hype in this thread certainly pointed me towards considering a Princeton otherwise I might have ignored it due to its diminuitive size and high price. I'm sleep deprived today becuase I played all night on that cool amp.

Thanks all.

Congratulations on the new purchase, I guess I should have started saving 7 years ago too, I might own one now. I am still considering it, but the price point is still rather high. I guess I should start saving now
