Hi,

I want to retube my DRRI, any suggestion on witch tube to get. I already replaced the Power tube with Mesa Boogie and rebias. My amp is a 1994 and no other tube has been change except those mention and V2. Does the rectifier tube make a big different in sound?

Rectifier tubes either work or they don't.

That's the extent of their impact on the amp's tone.

Just me Denis, but I like JJ's for the big bottles and Jan Phillips 5751's for V1 and 2.

For every owner of a DRRI you'll get a different answer!

Other than the stock GrooveTubes that came with mine I have tried Electro-Harmonix and JJ for the output tubes. The EH are my favorites and I'll be replacing the JJ with them.

12AX7A tubes for the V1 and V2 position. The "A" designates the amp will idle more quietly.

The 12AT7 in V6. I went with a NOS Mullard CV4024

Money is your only limit. If you can afford them, get NOS for your replacements.
There are many posts on tubes for the DRRI.

Just find a good reliable bottle that doesn't rattle (ie: stay away from the chicom junk).

Thanks,

I look around town today what I found are JJ , EH and Tung sol. I think I'm going to go with the JJ seams to be the more popular one.

If you like the sound of your DRRI and 6V6 don't go with the JJs, it will change the tone. I'm not a fan... go with TAD or EH for 6V6. I still have a JJ GZ34 and it's been a great tube, just didn't care for their 6V6 in a DR.

How does it change the tone? They're not your average 6V6, they're bigger bottles, more like a 6L6. Trust me, I went thru all kinds of tubes... I settled on RCAs and TADs for new production.

And I still haven't found occasion to use those JJ's ever since you sent them along to me.

One of these days though......
