Hey guys I have a fender hot rod deville that i've owned for about a year now. I love the amp and it sounds great. My question that I have though is I was wondering if anyone else has had issues with the amp sort of loosing power. I will be playing the amp for maybe 30-40 minutes and the volume will just start to fade out to where it is completely inaudible. I can crank up the volume and get a little bit of sound. If I kind of just wait the amps volume will return after a few minutes. I don't know if it is the power tubes or a fuse of some sort. I've been looking all over these forums and over the web to see if i can find a good definitive answer. Also if anyone knows whats wrong do you know if it is an expensive fix. I may just try and take it to a certified fender repair center and have them look at it if I can't get it fixed myself.

Thanks Guys

Hi Xcrunner129,

It sounds like you have a poor connection, such as a faulty solder joint. It could even be a bad preamp tube.

That's my answer in the telecaster forum where Xcrunner129 first post the question.

Hey guys thanks for your response. That is what most people have said to this issue and what ive found so far. I hope if it those things that it isnt too expensive of a fix. I plan on taking the amp to a certified repair man certified by fender so hopefully he will be able to tell me exactly what is going on with the amp. I have tested this with multiple things plugged into the same socket and have the same result if there are only two things plugged in. I also noticed that this would happen more when i was using the effects loop rather than running all my pedals in line to my amp. Im a fairly experienced guitarist and know what the benefits of the effects loop but idk if running my pedals through those actually wears out the tubes more or less than just running them through the input. I hope you guys can shine some light on this issue.

Thanks for all your help

Using the effects in the loop applies the effects after the two preamp tubes, but is still before the PI and output tubes. So, if the effects actually caused any additional "wear" on the tubes, using the loop would be "easier" on the preamp tubes, and no difference for PI and output tubes. IMO, there is really no difference in tube "wear" based solely on whether the effects are up front or in the loop.

had my Marshall doing this exact same thing, wound up being a few caps had just gone south on me, wasn't an expensive fix, although I was due for tubes so that up'd the repair bill.
