Hi guys,
I want to put a matched pair into my Hot Rod Deluxe. I'm wondering which i'll try...'cause i saw there's rate to choice from 1 to 10. I like to play Clapton's song, i'm trying to sound like him :D
Somebody knows which one goes inside Clapton's signature amplifier??

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Clapton's signature amp bears very little resemblance to a HRDlx.

I'm thinking about the clean chanel. you do not think he should get better? I know it will not sound the same because the construction of the amplifier, but may be similar ...

The pictures on the site show White 6 rated in the Twinolux. The "White 4-7" rated are probably the most common types used in most new Fender amps.

Upgrading the tubes on the amp will help and may make your HRD sound slightly better, but you're right, you won't sound anything like Eric Clapton. And it's not just because it's a different amp...

Nedo is correct in that a quality set of tubes with the power stage biased for optimum performance will likely improve the overall tone of the amp (speaking to the issue of the clean channel only). From there, it might be wise to experiment with a different (ie: better) speaker. A Weber 12A150 could be the ticket but the hemp-coned alnico Tone Tubby would also be a good choice. Once you have the amp dialed in it's time to search out a pedal or two (or three, or four......).

Choose them carefully and you might just end up where you wish to go.

Be careful, you can spend a lot of coin chasing someone's tone. I went through the same thing with my HRDlx. I only went as far as a set of tubes and biasing, saw the writing on the wall and dumped it. If you like the tone of it and want to try to improve it for yourself, go for it. If you need to go further, maybe you may want to consider a different amp. I wouldn't recommend chasing Clapton's tone. Unless you're Clapton, you'll never find it. It goes way deeper than just an amp or guitar.

I just mentioned Clapton's tone as a path I want to follow. I know I can not be him, and I know that is far beyond a simple amplifier and guitar. it's just a matter of where I want to go. I know that HRDLx is a ok amp and if I want a classic blues tone I'll have to spend a little more $ ... and here in Brazil is twice the U$ value ... it's like I were buying 2 amps!! so I want to ease the situation while I can not buy a Twin.

I wouldn't get a Twin. I lugged one around for over 30 years. It was my main gigging and rehearsal amp. Meaning, it was the amp I always used. All you would need is a used DRRI. So much better sounding than a HRDlx.
