I bought a new 65 Princeton Reverb several days ago - it hasn't left the apartment for gig/rehearsal yet. It was new in box and I've only played 6hrs. It is already making static noises (that do not increase with volume/tone knob adjustments) and touching the speaker cable cuts out the speaker - no sound whatsoever. It seems to be a cheaply material/cheaply made speaker wire. Anyone else have this problem.

I will be bringing amp back to place where I bought it tomorrow... its new.

Any thoughts?

Most definately take it back and have them either replace it or repair it. Either way, make sure before you walk out with it, that you test it to make sure it's working properly.

Fenders amp product QC has not been as it should be for the past couple years.

Let us know how it all turns out.

More than a decade, actually......

I have a DRRI and although I haven't had any problems with the speaker wire, one of the first mods I did was to remove those spade lugs, shorten the wire as much as possible and solder the wires onto the speaker tabs. I forget who it was, but I stole that idea from this forum. :P

It's funny that this came up. I was looking around today and I saw a complaint on the thin gauge of the speaker wire. So I went back and looked a little closer and I am not in love with that cheap molded 1/4" jack wire combo.

So I'm going to build a good soldered on type jack with wire like I use on my high amp draw type electric RC cars.

Replaced speaker wire at shop with more of the same type of cheap wire and played it for 30 min without any additional problems. I will be looking into higher quality speaker wire online to replace it. I am glad to see that was the only problem, let's hope that is it.

Fender used this type of plug and speaker wire for many decades......

I've never had one fail in my 45-year association with Fender amps.

Since my last post, I picked up a a speaker wire/cable from Monster Cable. I knowingly overpaid for it as compared to other options out there, but my local shop & Mojotone no longer had any vintage style cables as in Retroverbial's post above (thanks for the comments). But it was in stock, I do not want to deal with this type of problem again & I have gigged with a monster cable guitar cable for 8 years now without any problems (that's pretty good evidence to me on the durability of their products).

I've since put in new JJ power tubes, rebiased and man, does this amp sound unbelievable!

There's nothing wrong with Monster Cables (despite the outrageously overbloated price).

Rawk on!
