There is some negative stuff out there on this tube, but it all appears based on its marketing and not how it sounds.
Has anyone actually tried it?

Right now I'm using #3 rated GT EL84 to get as much power tube dirt as I can.
(I changed the preamp v1 to lower gain it hopes of getting less preamp dirt)
So far this is sounding good (billm mods too) but I'm curious about this tube.

I searched my amps' charts and the only thing I have that you might consider
are the Fender 5881/6L6WGC power tubes.

Copied from my personal 1994 Tone Master Notes: The Tone-Master tube complement consists of 4 Fender special design 5881/6L6WGC power tubes and 3 Fender special design 12AX7A pre-amp tubes. Fender’s “special design” tubes do provide optimum performance. The 5881 tubes allow the Tone Master to produce early Marshall tones & sounds. This is the only Fender true tube amp to provide the Marshall tone/sound possibility. There must be important reasons why famous guitarists as Jimmy Page & Joe Perry chose the Tone Master for their production numbers.

I've read that the Tone Master is the only amp
that Fender produced with a Tube set to match or compete
with the EL84. If I am incorrect, PLMK.

Therefore, thinking the OP might be interested
in reviewing/checking-out another option besides
the JJ tubes, which he claims have a few bad reviews.

So, if the OP is changing tubes to get a more "Brit" sound,
Thought I'd be helpful as many are not aware of the Fender Tone Master.
What do you think?

Example:

What do you think? Ever thought about using the Fender
5881/6L6WGC power tubes?

Just wondering

Now I see what you're getting at Topp. I found it confusing because the original post asked about as Blues Jr. and El84s, and you replied with info about the Tone Master and 6L6WGCs.

On that note, BillM talks about how to install 6L6s in a Blues Jr, but it requires modifying. You can seriously damage the amp if you simply swapped in 6L6WGCs!

I'd heard great things about this one, especially as a ROCK tube: http://thetubestore.com/treasure6.html
They're relatively cheap and not so hard to find on eBay. ($40 for a pair)
Never tried them, sold my Blues Jr. just before buying some. In case you're looking to experiment!

Sovtek EL84M is the current EL84 I've been using for the last 5 year. Very tough, mean sounding tube esp in Class "A" Vox-style amps. They are relabeled Russian mil spec, Reflector 6P14P-EV tubes. (Must have -EV or -EB suffix = mil spec with "OTK" approval stamp).

No. I love my Tone Master Amp Head.
Sold the matching 2x12 cabinet last month.
The gain channel gets real dirty real quick, like on 2-3.
and plays great at low volumes.

I'd never swap within the Tone Master (actually, might try the EL84 series
if they will not hurt my amp) unless advised. I love trial by fire

Anybody have ANY experience with the Fender 5881/6L6WGC power tubes :?: :?: :?:

Toppscore 8)
