Why was this added , to me
it just muddies the tone up unless
you run it in the loose position.

Is there a way to disable this and
lwt the speakers just run regularly
what does this control do inside the
amp is it a frequency or mechanical
kind of adjustment

ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT
THANK YOU

Features are usually added because some people like them. If it sounds better to you in one setting than the other, then just use the setting that you like best. No need to disable something if you have the option to not use it (normal). I doubt if it is mechanical, looks like it is an "effect" and has a circuit in the amp.

THANKS SHIMMILOU

I like it on the loose but
feel that it is still too constrictive
on the speakers
so wonder if there is a way
to take completely out
so there is no damping like
on a real twin reverb

The schematic isn't completely clear about it, but it looks like the "damping" switch just selects different value resistors to add to the feedback loop and the PI circuit. There are many other differences in the SS Twin, so I doubt that any change to this circuit will achieve the same sound as a TR. This amp is not a TR modded to a SS, it just has settings to sound similar to a TR. I suppose if you wanted to experiment, this circuit could be disconnected, a jumper added to bridge the gap, then find the right value of resistor (and cap if necessary) to put in place of the R113 feedback resistor, and rebuild the rest of the PI circuit. Or, maybe better, you could change the values of the selected resistors in the existing switch circuit (R109, R112, R114, R134, R157) to tailor the sound to what you want. But this circuit isn't restricting the speakers, it is changing the feedback and PI circuit to simulate speaker damping.

Really, I don't see much to be gained by changing anything about the damping circuit, it isn't going to give you a TR sound, and it would be a lot of work, probably resulting in disappointment and possible damage to the amp. It looks like the "normal" setting would be no "damping". Maybe you are letting the term "damping" influence your thoughts on the sound too much. :?:

+1

As well, any alterations to the chassis will flush the warranty down the commode.

Perhaps a new pair of speakers are in order......?

I guess each persons gear has some influence on the overall effect as I run mine on loose and it is good for me. And on the other settings it still is not "Muddy", but that is a subjective topic. And as the others have said this switch merely introduces more or less feedback into the Phase Inverter valve circuitry before the power amp valves. This technically "Dampens", in varying amounts, the signal going into the power amp, and not the physical speaker (as the knob label suggests).
