I am thinking about extending my hot rod deluxe iii to a cabinet of some sort or possiblly buying a Shure SM57 and just micing the amp through the PA to JBL speakers without a cab. My friend owns some sort of Fender cab (not sure exact model, I will know this weekend) with I beleive is a 2x12. I am fairly newbish to the whole cabinet department. So my main questions are: Will my HRD iii be able to give enough power to the cab? My band mainly plays small bars and and some outdoor, somewhat big gigs. That being said, should the cab/mic just be avoided altogether, or would having one or the other make a signifigant difference? Mic and/or Cab question will be in Poll

If you opt for the extension cab route, be sure that the added enclosure has a system impedance of 8 ohms.

Ok. Will that be shown on the cab itself?

Possibly. Alternatively, it may be necessary to open the cab and inspect the speakers themselves and their method of wiring to ascertain what's what. A DVM would be a handy item to have in that case. For a two-speaker cab, you'll need 16-ohm speakers connected in parallel to arrive at the requisite 8 ohms.

It's possible to "trick" the amp into driving a 4-ohm cabinet but you must disconnect the amp's internal speaker. In this scenario, install a "dummy" plug in the primary speaker jack and connect the external enclosure to the extension output jack.
