Hello all- newbie here- first post. I'm looking for opinions that will give me a clue here...I've been playing for 30 years...and that number is starting to scare me. LOL.
I use a Fender 4x10" Blues Deville, its an older one probably 1995. I think she wails like a banshee... I've used her on the reg. and she's never failed me once. She is a loud amp too which is GRRREAT!....
In my pedals I have a Fulltone DejaVibe (the grey one) and everytime I turn that pedal ON, the volume drops noticably. WHHHHHYYYY?!?!?! The sound is so close to perfection i cannot describe, and yet she foils me...If i click the pedal on it just takes the tone to mashed potato land...lotsa mush. The clarity is gone. I've tried the DV both in line & in the FX loop and got the same result.
Here's the kicker: I use the same pedal with a Mark IV or a Peavey Classic 50- and the problem does not exist. So that tells me it ain't the pedal. (The DejaVibe is another winner btw)
The second issue is when i turn either the DV or the OD/Fuzz pedal ON or OFF there is a loud and annoying CLICK! or POP! which ain't good fer m'speakers...Again, this only happens with the Fender. The MB or PV are silent when i hit the same switches. I use the FX loop in the Fender for other pedals, and there is no volume drop, or POP!! (I use a Fulltone GT 500 btw)
My best guess is some kind of grounding issue? There is a weird electrical thing goin' on which i haven't resolved. I use an SKB45 pedal board which in 6 years of steady usage is reliable, quiet and quick to set up. I run stereo out of the board to the Fender and/or the Mesa or Peavey. Running in stereo is just a lotta fun. More to carry & more to set up, but sound wise it just works.....
So that's my issue. Fender don't fail me now...
thanks all

Hi paddylou,

First, I would get rid of everything except the troublesome pedal (run with battery, not powered externally), isolate to just that pedal and the one BDvl amp for testing. After trying with just the DV, swap that pedal for another and check the operation. Be sure to use the same cables for each test, and double check the cables to be sure that they are good. It could be that the combination of all pedals, and/or using two amps together produces some kind of ground loop and that pedal is more sensitive to the condition. Something to try anyway.

THANK YOU!!!!

Shimmilou (great name) I tried the pedal in line & in the FX loop of different amps and the volume drop and the CLICK!! did not happen. I am 99.9% that you cannot use a battery with a DejaVibe...the endlesss search of perfect tone continues...
thanks fellas

You need to go back and reread shimmilou's post. That is not what he suggested you do.

So i took apart the pedal board today, and went Strat-Cable A- DejaVibe-Cable B- Fender Amp.
Sounded OK...Then I tried it several more times, each time adding a different pedal but using the same cables. She sounded OK. The POP!! sound would happen if all the OD was ON and i turned the DV on or off. That's to be expected to a degree. But the volume drop was not evident.
The amps & pedalboard were on the same electrical circuit, but different outlets. Since I un-did the pedals, the pwr. cable for the DejaVibe was uncoiled. I usually had the pwr. cable wrapped up neatly with a velcro strap since i only need about 6", and its about 2' long.
Maybe that had something to do with it...
Thanks for the help.

That's great! Divide and conquer. Good job. :)
