The vibrato inputs work and sound fine but I'm not getting or just barely getting sound out of the normal inputs. The volume knob has no effect at changing what little sound that comes out. I see all the tubes glowing except the two GT 12AT7 but I read these do not glow like the others anyway. This amp has very little use and is only about two years old.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas?

A glowing tube does not necessarily indicate a good tube. A simple troubleshooting procedure would be to swap V1 and V2. If the "dead" inputs move to the vibrato channel then it's a safe bet that the 12AX7 now installed in the V2 socket is dead.

Ok, I finally got around to doing it. (I've been using my goldtone). I swapped the 2 12AX7's from V1 and V2. Not new tubes, just switched them out. Tried the Normal channel and still nothing. Then I tried the Vibrato channel and again and that was working fine. So then I tried the Normal side again and this time it was working. Been working fine for a few days so far. Except for one new problem. It has happend twice. I start hearing this high pitched feedback sound that keeps getting louder and louder. Volume has no effect. I switch to standby for a second and it's gone. Turn it back on and it's gone. Never had that happen before.

Now the feedback sound has been happening all the time. I found that if I had the reverb button on the footswitch off, it quits. Or at least turn it down under 3.
Does that sound tube related? I guess there is not a way to upload an audio file here so you can hear what it sounds like is there?

Yes, sounds like tube related issues you're having... is this feedback sound in both channels? If it's caused by reverb you need to check V3 and V4 as well.

If it was me I'd get a few good 12AX7 and 12AT7 and start testing... you could spend some money on good tubes, replace all stock tubes, and you will enjoy the amp a lot more. But that's just me :)

When you say "good tubes" do you have ones in mind that you prefer? Do you order them online? What is the price range on these "good" ones? Thanks

Depends on your budget... vintage NOS tubes are still the best out there, but can get very pricey... for new production I like the Mullard Reissue 12AX7

https://www.kcanostubes.com/content/mullard-reissue-12ax7

They're right on the edge of being microphonic, but I like that in a tube... you'll need 4.

You'll need a couple 12AT7, get a balanced one for V6. This is probably one of the best to get and you can't beat the price IMO

https://www.kcanostubes.com/content/nos-mullard-cv4024-12at7

If you use reverb you'll be surprised what a difference this tube will make in V3!

While you're at it, consider replacing the power tubes. I really like the TAD 6V6GT-STR for new production, but nothing beats original RCAs, nothing.

You're looking at about $200 in tubes. You don't have to spend that money of course, you can get one of each preamp to try out and see if you like 'em...

Excellent information. I appreciate the time it took to give it. Do you get the original RCAs at the same site?

No problem. Mike at KCA tubes has a lot of great NOS tubes, call him and tell him what you're looking for, tone you're after, he's extremely helpful.

So let me be sure I've got this right with all the matching and balanced choices to choose from. Does this list look correct? Also there is another tube you didn't mention next to the two power tubes. Should this one be replaced as well? The 5AR4.

4 ea. Mullard Reissue 12AX7 No Matching, $18.00
1 ea. NOS Mullard CV4024 (12AT7) No Matching, $30.00
1 ea. NOS Mullard CV4024 (12AT7) Balanced Triodes, $35.00
2 ea. TAD-6V6 Price for a matched pair $47.95

That list looks a lot like what's in my DRRI :)

If the rectifier tube (5AR4/GZ34) is ok you don't have to replace it... the Mullards are the best, if you can find them. Talk to Mike and see what he says. I've used the JJ GZ34 and never had an issue.

BTW, if you do go with new power tubes it's best to check the bias. If you don't know how to do it or not comfortable doing it yourself have a tech do it for you. If the bias is set too cold you won't enjoy the amp as much...

I thought I had a bad tube/s as well with my DRRI problems. After trying & returning a few brand new "bad" DRRIs & settled with which i thought was a "good one". It developed a horrible noisy & not natural break & the amp also buzzed at lower vol. levels.
I finally got it back from repair after 7 weeks. It turns out the 6v6 power sockets were defective & replaced. Well after all the BS, the amp it sounds GREAT- as it should!
But buyer be aware of quality control issues with the 2011-12 DDRIs! Buzzing & a horribly-crappy & overly distorted breakup, problems have been experienced & reported though out this forum.
Fender is aware & hopefully these problems will be addressed!
