Can anyone diagnose whats causing this crackling noise

It only happens in Input 1 and after about an hour of playing

There are no issues in input 2

Possibly bad solder joint on input #1 phone jack. If you are competant with a soldering iron, you could touch up the joints, or if the amp was bought new, take/send it back to the seller for a warranty claim.

I'm thought that too,

butl long story short

this is my second one of these the 1st one did this but worse went in to be chacked out, and they reckon they fixed it that took a month

but no when i got it back it was still faulty.

So i got a replacement this one and after approx 1 hour of playing yes out of the box this one is doing it

it's not cables i've used a couple of different types even a sheilded one

it's not guitars happens with tele's my strat, and this was recorded with my les paul.

this does not happen on my other amps in the house

so 2 months down the track and i still haven't used the amp to its full potential

i'd be interested if anyone else has this issue

i really like the tone of the amp and thinking about what to do do i go 3rd time lucky or do i get a refund ? i'm starting to get over it

Three things to maybe try:

1. Exchange it again, but THOROUGHLY check out the new one before you take it home.

2. Get it repaired, but take it to a DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED repair person.

3. Send it back to Fender and let them deal with it.

Well, if you are absolutely positive that the noise doesn't occur with input #2 and you have eliminated all external possibilities, the only thing it could be is the input #1 circuitry. Since both inputs go to the same half of V1, it is highly unlikely to be a tube problem. This is the schematic for the 57 Champ Reissue (Fender hasn't released the EC Vibro-Champ shematic).

http://support.fender.com/schematics/gu ... _Rev-B.pdf

You can see the components that are attached to input #1. Carefully pull the back cover and with the amp plugged in and turned on (set the volume low), gently tap the input #1 solder connections (and R2 which is on the circuit board) with a wooden chop stick or something similar. You will probably find one solder joint that is noisy. Carefully resolder that joint and the problem should go away. Keep you hands out of the amp and touch nothing else as you could get a nasty shock from the power supply caps. Best to discharge them first if you know how to do so. A search on You Tube will show you how.

That YT clip sure sounds like "ghost note" issues. But, these are usually a main filter cap(s) and/or coupling cap problem and should effect both inputs.

The only difference I can see is the 68k-ohm resistor inline with each input. Maybe, tap that resistor (ala Bluesky's suggestion) with a chopstick and see if you can change the amount of noise. Maybe, it's just a bad resistor. That would be a nice, cheap problem with a simple solution.

Good luck!

Yep, that sounds like a carbon-comp resistor noise. That, or a bad solder joint, or bad contact on the shorting input jack. No need for carbon resistors on the input jacks anyway, if that is what is there.

If you guys recall, I had a similar issue with the #1 bright input on my Weber 5F6A. It turned out to be a bad solder joint on the 1 MOhm resistor that is soldered across the #1 input jack. A slight tweak of the resistor position and reflow of the solder cured it.

That's the most likely cause.
