recently bought a scratch-n-dent DRRI.

played ok for short time, then one channel didn't work.

americanmusical replaced a tube, that fixed that problem

now, when foot switch is plugged in and VIB is kicked in, the annoying, tick-tick-tick... starts coming through the speaker. turning vol up doesn't increase this tick-tick-tick... very much at all.

fender just sent a new switch to replace the original one. both induce the same when VIB is pressed on.

thoughts on what this might be & a fix?

The infamous "trem tick".

One possible solution:

A Google search for "DRRI Trem Tick" will reveal a great deal of info also.

gee, it even has a name!

i'll let the tech support guy know.

its still under some warranty i think since its so new, well, scratch-n-dent, but that didn't say DIY, "shunting off the ticking noise" amp for sale. ;-)

i think we're getting closer to an answer and fix.

thanks!

I don't know if this is what you are hearing but anytime I play any of my strats through any amp and I am wearing a Quartz-battery watch and I get my arm too close to the pickup. you got it TICK - TICK -TICK. I have to make sure I wear a mechanical- wind up or automatic watch..............

nope, not what i'm hearing.

i don't wear a watch and haven't for years. cell phone replaced that.

i think it more to do with the electronics in the amp.

anyways, Americanmusical and Fender have been very helpful trying to get this issue fixed.

going to take it in to a local Fender tech for them to fix this per Fender's request. They heard the "ticking " noise via phone today, agreed that isn't "normal". ;-)

i'll post what the fix is when i get the amp back. might help others

In 2009, Fender put a small board in the amp to fix the famous tick. Before that, all the RI's did. Even the Blackfaced amps did. So I guess that's why the reissues did too. My 2009 DRRI doesn't tick. My 1991 TRRI does tick.

the fender tech mentioned "that tick", but when he heard the tick this amp is making, he said that isn't supposed to be there at all. quite loud and annoying. ;-)

the fender tech couldn't find anything of issue with the tick noise. weird, it wasn't as loud at the store versus at home.

it still ticks but much less pronounced. guess thats norm for this.

one of these days, i'll make that circuit board upgrade and all new tubes.

appreciate the help

Are you talking about two different "Fender techs", one of which is completely wrong, or the same tech that has changed his story? Either way, the tick issue has been fixed many times, in different ways, by different people, and there are plenty of DRRIs out there that do not tick at all. Something is not right here, besides the ticking. :?

I thought that the "upgrade" to a separate board for the trem was more about RoHs nonsense than it was about a "fix" for the circuit anyway.

two tech's i guess. one on the phone who heard the ticks, and said that ain't supposed to be there. and local tech fender had me take the amp to, that couldn't find a problem.

since you brought that up, "the tick issue has been fixed many times", what's a link to a fix and i'll try it myself. not sure if the previous link is the fix(s) you are mentioning.

i'd prefer for the amp to not tick. through headphones it sucks.

Yes, the link in my response above is by a famous amp tech/modder who is very familiar with the DRRI (you may have heard of the "Fritz mod", unrelated to the tick), and is just one possible solution. Again, Google "DRRI Trem Tick" for much more info.
