Just got the Hot Rod Deluxe III- nice amp; enjoying it. Quick question:

When I plugged my Line 6 M13 into the effects loop I got a really loud buzzing sound.

I suspect it is just an incompatibility between the two things, but any thoughts? Two things to keep in mind:

1. The Line 6 worked fine when put between the guitar and the amp.

2. The Line 6 works fine with my Egnater Renegade's loop.

Thanks!

 :?: :(

I just get hiss and a dull sound when I use my POD in the loop, the POD sounds much better up front, especially for the distortion effects/presets. If you are using any of the really high gain presets on the POD (like the Marshall Plexi Variac preset), you will get buzzing, just like on a real amp. Try some other settings on the POD. Also, if not the preset, maybe it's one of the instrument cables used to connect the POD, I would check them to be sure. Any difference using the left or right outputs from the POD, or turning down the "output" or "channel volume" on the POD? Another way to connect, is to plug the guitar into the POD, then plug the output of the POD directly into the "Power Amp In", which will bypass the preamp section of the HRDlx, so all volume and tone control will be from the POD. If nothing here helps, you could be right and the two just don't go together. There is almost always some effects that won't work well in any amp's loop.

It's not the POD, it is the M13 multieffects modeler. No amp models in it. Still, it sounds like Line 6 stuff just doesn't play well with the Fender loop. It might be a cable. I can try that.

Sorry about that, I was thinking HD for some reason.

Yes, check the cables. Another test, use a cable that is known good, and simply plug it into the loop to test the loop itself to make sure that it isn't an amp loop problem.

Just out of curriosity, I was wondering if you were running the M13's compressor. If so turn it off, also check to see how hot the noise gate is set for. One of the things I learned about my M13 was that all the effects are different volumes, Chorus {loud} delay{loud} , phaser{quiet} etc.

Don't usually use the compressor or the noise gate effect. I did notice in the set up screen that there seems to be a gate of some sort and I am going to try that.

I should also be clear that the M13 works fine when I put it in between the guitar and the amp. It is when I put it in the loop that I get the noise.

I don't think it is anything wrong. I think the two units are just a little incompatible. I doesn't matter that much since I bought the amp as a grab and go and probably won't be using the M13 when I use that amp. Still, it would be nice if there was a simple solution.

BINGO! That little "gate" setting in the setup screen was it. It is not even mentioned in the handbook, but I guess it is a little built in noise gate. A little tweaking there and everyone is happy!

 8) :P  :!:

Great to hear Len! :)

Even after a couple of years with my POD, I still find new things to tweak.

I only use the M13 for modulation, delay and filter effects (my Fulltone OCD or Plimsoul sound better than any of the modeled distortions and I Like the HRDLX's reverb better than any of the modeled effects anyway)....the filter effects get pretty noisy but, all I've ever had to do with that is adjust the mix level on the filters. It just seemed to work the best for me that way in the effects loop settings. I HAVE used it in front of my amp before too and it ain't bad but I really like the amp's natural preamp tone when driven a little with the OCD on the clean channel only. I don't really like the HRDLX's high gain channel much.
