Anyone like the bassman amp? Tell me about them. Good, bad. I heard they take pedals really well? Are they just good for blues, etc?

This is the only amp that I have vowed to keep. It has great tone with single coils or Humbuckers. It can move alot of Air with 4x10's.I used it for giging and home practicing. However I do not transport it for band practice it is two heavy and valueable to drag around. It is not a bedroom level amp. However when you need to turn it up WOW!!!

I use a reverb pedal when needed. But I am looking at the Blues Junior as a practice amp at home. The Bassman has been relieable but I use a Marshall 50 Watt head as a back up at gigs.

The Bassman is awesome for any collection but if you are short on space and are just going to practice at home, get a Blues Junior Jr. I had a Hot Rod deluxe a few years ago it was good but you may not need the 40 watts.

Hold out for the "LTD" version of the re-issue Bassman. It's closer to the original 5F6-A circuit, with its GZ34 tube rectifier and adjustable bias control. It's also a bit lighter in weight than the regular tweed Bassman due to the all-pine cabinet.

Good to know Arjay. Thanks!
Though by "close" , how much is still missing and is it worth noting and possibly correcting?

The biggest shortcoming in the re-issue Bassman LTD that I've noted is the choice of those lackluster OEM Eminence speakers. They simply do not do the amp justice IMO. I've done a couple of speaker swaps for clients and the sonic improvement was both dramatic and significant. One asked for hemp-cone Tone Tubby's and the other requested a matched quartet of CTS alnico's. As an aside I heard one of these amps on-stage recently with Webers (2 x 10F125's, 2 x 10A125's) and it was about the ballsiest re-issue 5F6-A I've seen to date.

Disclaimer, I have an amp farm. The bassman sprouted into my farm 4 years ago. And it the least used amp. It has wonderful tone with an American Standard. I can get decent tone with a telecaster deluxe reissue. It can not accept my EC strat well at all. The reason that it is the least used, though, it because it's so damned heavy and it's just too loud. I think the only two places you need a 4x10 is in your bedroom or at Madison Square Garden. I can't keep knocking the paintings off the walls of my bedroom and I won't ever be on the stage of MSG.

Try an NOS 12AY7 in V1 like is supposed to be there instead of the stock 12AX7. Makes a big difference in loudness and tone.
