I dont gig anymore, and Im trying to thin out my collection, and have mayby my Fender deluxe tele, and a 52 reissue and let it be. I need a good small amp to play through at home, and mayby on a little jam with friends sometimes. I was looking at the Fender Blues Junior II NOS amp. 15 watts, etc, which is all I need. Its small, light, and takes up no space. What do you guys think?

I've been through four Blues Juniors: two black version IIs, an NOS Tweed and a III which I have now. I was able to compare the II and the NOS and the NOS sounds different (better?) than the black version. I now own a version III which I am very happy with. Even with the stock speaker. Though I've never compared it to a Tweed. My guess is you'd be happy with either. The Tweed definitely looks cooler. Try them out side by side and see if the Tweed is worth $100 more. The only differences between a II and an NOS are the cosmetics and the speaker. The III is slighty different electronically and has a different speaker than the II.

The great things about the BJ:

1) Totally small and light. Perfect for your grab and go situations.
2) Much louder than you'd expect for a small, light 15 watt amp. Can hang with any band except maybe one with John Bonham on drums ;-) Plenty loud for jam sessions. Perfect for home use at low volume as well.
3) Master Volume so you can dial in dirt at low volume at home.
4) Plenty of clean headroom believe or not. Almost as much as my DRRI.
5) Real Fender spring reverb 4 which there is no substitute.
6) Sparkly cleans!!

I know there are a lot of corkshiffing haters out there. But for $500, frankly your other options: Bugera V22 (cheaper), Pro Jr., Egnater Tweaker, Blackstar Studio 20, Vox AC15, etc. fall short in one of the above areas or another (and all are more expensive except the Bugera.)

Wow man, I think you just sold me on the JR. Thanks for the in depth review. I needed that.

Hey Mike, ever had any experience with a Fender Bassman amp? I heard they sound really good, and take pedals really well.

Sorry, no direct experience with a Bassman RI but that amp is a beast weightwise (4X10). However I understand that it's sound is unique and it is widely loved. Something to consider if you want to go bigger and louder. The Bassman will hang with any drummer out there. Again, if you want to upgrade don't ignore the Super Reverb (also 4X10) and the DRRI (a nice in between option though I'm biased )

The tweed is a good choice. Actually it sounded quite a bit better than the II now that I think of it.

Make sure 15 watts is enough power for what you want. It's gonna lose clean headroom fast if it is turned up at all.

The jensen c12n is very ice picky in the tweed because of a few reasons. See: billmaudio for details. I just put a cannibis rex in my nos b.jr & sounds a lot better.

That stock speaker isn't bad, but the C-Rex is definitely a good upgrade. Given the OP's post, the BJr should have plenty of power. Just to make sure you understand, the Blues Junior NOS is the tweed version. There is no Blues Junior II NOS.

I rehearsed and gigged with one Blues Junior or another for a couple of years. Admittedly my drummer isn't out of control and we don't play death metal, but the BJ never has trouble keeping up. Plenty loud. Not very BIG sounding which is why my DRRI is my main amp. What a great piece of equipment. But the Blues Junior is the little amp that could.

I've got an '08 BJr NOS and I love it. Mine is an '08 so I don't know if that's a I, II or III. Plenty of power to hang with a drummer and a good practice/bedroom amp as well. It also takes pedals well. If you get it let us know how you like it.

Let me pitch in my two cents...
I have the Bjr nos, great amp, plenty loud.
Perfect for your situation IMHO, I noticed your inquiry
on the Bassman , too much amp for playing at home and jamming
with friends.

I got one of these tweeds for $300 off the Guitar Center 'used gear' section of their site. Best price I've seen. I prefer to buy from them 'cause you can return the item to the store, prices are better than eBay and CL usually. (If you don't have a GC around I've read that they'll pay return S/H if you don't like the item.) I haven't received the amp yet but all the used stuff I've bought from them has been amazingly packed and in excellent condition. Look there if you are looking for a cheap tweed or other cool finish Blues Jr. Cheers.
