HI everyone! New here and a relatively new guitar player. Open chords and such, maybe some scale work. Trying to figure it out. Enjoying it very much. Anyway, I bought a solid state Princeton 65 amp for $70 and was looking for insight on it. So if anyone knows something about it I would appreciate the help. Thanks!

It's a cute little amp, no question, and I recently tried one of these amps out at the local Music-Go-Round. It was priced at a very reasonable $99 as it included the original foot switch and a nice Fender cover. But when I played through it I thought it sounded just okay and I thought the reverb (looked like just a 9-10" unit in the bottom of the amp) was very weak. Even on 10 I couldn't get a nickel's worth of splash, so I just left it there.

I've jammed a couple of times with a guy who plays one - these were band jams, so I got to hear his amp up against drums, bass, and other guitars. It was plenty loud enough, but I don't know how high he had it turned up.

I thought it sounded good clean. He doesn't use effects, so I can't comment on overdriven tones, etc, but it sounds good for rhythm and lead work, especially on the neck pickup of a Tele for bluesy stuff. I imagine a Strat would sound good through one as well. I've never heard a humbucker guitar played through one.

$70 is a decent price for a used one, IMO. You can probably get your money back if you decide to sell it.

Thanks guys! I knew it wasn't a tube so I figured it wasn't anywhere near great but it seemed to be decent enough for me (a beginner). I think I will get my money back when and if I ever try to get rid of it. For now though I am pretty much playing that acoustic in the pic. Wow does it make the electric easier to fret. I am trying to learn The Rain Song by Zep on the el cheapo epi junior there with this amp and am happy with the way it sounds. Thanks again. :D
